NHS Quit Your Way – Stop Smoking Service

Rebecca Kirkpatrick; Tobacco Control Practitioner for NHS Quit Your Way team offers support to Primary schools across the region for Smoking and Vaping Early Intervention and Prevention sessions. These can be delivered by Rebecca, or lesson plans and materials can be shared with schools for “in house” delivery.  Secondary school delivery focuses more on the risks of nicotine addiction, alongside where to go for support to quit. Training – Protecting Our Youth from Tobacco and Vaping Harm

Join the Quit Your Way service by listening to an essential training session exploring the growing impact of tobacco and vaping on our younger generation—and what we can do to help.  This training is delivered as a pre-recorded video presentation, featuring narrated slides accessible via the YouTube link below. You can watch it at your own pace and revisit the content anytime.

This training is ideal for Educators and school staff and aims to increase knowledge of tobacco dependency and an emergent and fast paced vape culture which is presenting new risks to children and young people.  It hopes to give those who listen to the training greater confidence in talking to children and young people about their smoking and vaping behaviour and encourage better awareness of local resource to help prevent and protect against the associated risks.

ASH Scotland’s Youth Conversations hub

As part of ASH Scotland’s desire to hear from young people, they are looking to gather organisations that work with young people, including schools, to form a Youth Conversations Hub. The key purpose of the hub is to share best practice, knowledge, and resources in relation to smoking and related products. By being part of the hub, you will have access to the most up-to-date knowledge and resources related to smoking and related products, and have the opportunity to attend themed in-person and online events. The next meeting is being held in December.

Some areas that we ASH Scotland interested in are the link between mental health and vaping, young people’s views on support to quit vaping, and the environment. Their aim is to share young people’s opinions, views, and attitudes with the Scottish Government to inform future policy and procedures. Additionally, there may be opportunities to access materials and resources provided by ASH Scotland for use with young people. ASH Scotland would like to hear about your insights and experiences with the young people you work with, which will help inform their work going forward.

Further information on the Youth Conversation Hub and how your school can get involved is available at: Youth Conversations Hub – ASH Scotland
