Digital Quick Tip – Passwords
Having a strong password that isn’t easy to guess is vital to protect your online accounts and the information they hold. This is especially important for your Glow account.
Glow Passwords:
The Glow default password policy imposes a minimum strength for user roles and student year groups; all staff in schools teaching and non-teaching require a strong password.
This Glow Password Guidance provides more information.
The quick guide below provides simple tips we recommend, helping you get the balance of a safe and strong password that is memorable for you.
Make your password easy to remember:
- Use words as they are easier to remember than random number and letters.
- If you struggle to remember where upper/ lower/ numbers/ symbols go, just make it all lowercase with no spaces.
- The National Cyber Security Centre recommend combining Three Random Words to generate a password that is easier for you to remember and harder for others to guess.
Make your password hard to guess:
- Avoid birthdays, quotations, your kids or pets names, nicknames, common words and phrases.
- Avoid anything people associate with you.
- Remember easy passwords don’t get harder just because you’ve added a couple of digits
to the end and a capital letter at the beginning!
One last thing…
Don’t re-use the same password across important accounts. If one of your passwords is stolen, criminals will use this to try and access other accounts.
