Primary p5-7 from Leswalt, joined up with pupils from their partnership school of Portpatrick, and pupils from Sheuchan to rehearse and perform “Warriors!” . This was made possible with support from Scottish Opera.
Children had been learning the songs in school all of this term, and they all came together to perform at Sheuchan Primary. The story was based in ancient China, with Leswalt and Portpatrick pupils taking on the role of peasants. It was a brilliant performance to parents and relatives, with expressive acting and wonderful singing from all. Have a look at the photographs to see the energy and enthusiasm for yourselves.
In glorious sunshine the children of Leswalt Primary enjoyed a picnic lunch outside. They brought along some of their furry friends for a “teddy bears picnic” and enjoyed a fabulous selection of party food out doors. Have a look at the fun they had in the sun!
Today saw the final week of wider achievement activities taking place. The sun shone as the children fished, painted, sewed……and even made Christmas decorations!!
Many thanks to Mrs Cochran, Mrs Mc Intyre, Mrs Brown , Katie Wright and Stewart Mc Culloch who have helped support wider achievement groups for the last few weeks.
Primary 6 recently had their health and wellbeing learning and teaching enhanced by joining in the “Operation Safety” event which is organised by the emergency services, every year. Have a look at the photographs and see if you can guess what they were learning about.
Since the start of May our new entrants for August have been enjoying weekly visits to Leswalt Primary. We are looking forward to welcoming 5 new starts to Primary one next year, from 3 different Nurseries. During their weekly transition visits to Leswalt Primary they have all been getting to know each other, and the school, better.
As part of their learning and teaching on the topic of transport, P5-7 paid a visit to the Stena Line port at Cairnryan. This was arranged with the assistance of Mrs Mc Intyre, a parent who works there.
By all accounts it was a fantastic visit . The staff at Stena couldn’t have been nicer. The children got to be in the control room in the terminal and behind the customer services desk (much to the surprise/ amusement of a Japanese tour guide!) They then watched the boat docking and unloading before going on board. Norris McLean gave them a full tour of the vessal, including the bridge. There were lots of great questions all round from the boys and girls. They finished off their trip by getting juice and crisps at the terminal courtesy of Stena.
“On the 1st of June p5-7 went on a trip to Stena to learn about the ship because we are learning about transport. We got a tour of the boat and got to see all the places were the staff are allowed and where the lorry drivers go. We got to ask questions all about the boat. On the ferry they can fit 1200 people. We also saw where they answer the phones when you are booking to go on the boat. It was one of the best trips we have ever been on. Thanks to the people at Stena for letting us come.” ( Arden Mcintyre, p5)
This week the “Randomiser” was used to allow pupils to select what activities they tried.
Mrs Mc Knight and her group made beautiful buttonholes and corsages. As Chloe was heading off to a wedding at night they kindly made her a lovely pink corsage to go with her pretty pink dress : )
Have a look at the photographs of the fun that was had!
Leswalt Primary has started a their regular Friday afternoon Wider Achievement activity afternoons. This allows pupils to select an activity which they would like to further develop skills in and/or extend their experiences in. It also allowed pupils to work together in different social and age groups. Have a look at some of the fun that was on offer!
As part of their science learning and teaching Primary 5-7 have been busy making Ice cream – looking at changes in state. There was a great variety of flavours created in the classroom;
Kathryn and Lauren made very refreshing apple and mango sorbet. Rhona and Freya created a super fruity pink raspberry and strawberry ice cream. Arden and Aimee used banana yogurt and meringues in with their fruit to make a tasty dessert.
Mrs Baillie popped into the class for some time, as she had to have a taste!
However, Jack and Jamie were not so impressed with their “sludge” ice cream! Using brambles, blueberries, milk, honey, maple syrup, sugar and meringue their ice cream ended up a not so appetising looking grey colour.
In his written response to the question “how did your ice cream look, feel and taste?” Jamie wrote “it looked like sick, it felt chunky and it tasted like turnip. It was like swallowing an old tyre”.
The next question asked “Is there anything you might change about your manufacturing method for future batches?” Jamie answered “We would change everything – the colour, taste, amounts and flavour!”
Great effort for honesty Jamie – but not quite Masterchef material yet!
Mrs Bathgate has been busy delivering a series of cycle training lessons to her Primary 5-7 class this week. As part of the Health and well being learning and teaching, the class will be focussing on risk taking behaviour. And, they have all been bringing their bikes to school so they can learn how to cycle safely while out and about in the community. Hopefully you will see pupils out and about demonstrating what they have learned!
