Football Report by Mr Simon Mein
The primary 5 footballers, coached by Mr Mein and two high School pupils, have been playing their first matches!
Dalbeattie Primary School P5 Football team played its first competitive match recently, recording a 6-3 home win against Castle Douglas. It was watched by a good turn out of spectators, and despite the driving rain and hailstones, the players performed admirably and were a credit to the school. Special mention should go to hat-trick hero Kieran and also to Adam, Greg and Owen who were rock-like in defence throughout. Charlie and Paige were playing in their first competitive matches and both had highly creditable debuts, putting in some fine tackles.
The next fixture took place as an away match at Castle Douglas on March 4th , again in with some hail and good parental support! This was another win for our team, they won 2-1. The team was also delighted to be wearing a brand new set of football strips supplied by Ashliegh Construction, the company who is currently building the new Dalbeattie Clinic. Thank you to project manager David Roan for this super set of strips for our school.
The team has been training for several weeks under the watchful eyes of High School student coaches Duncan Scott and Frazer McClelland. Currently 15 students take part in training although there is always space for more. The large squad means there is a lot of rotating of players during the matches but the students cope with the changes well and adapt well to new positions. Hopefully more matches can be arranged soon!
