Jubilee Celebrations

On Wednesday 1st June, both Nursery and Primary School children had a wonderful day celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee.
The day started with activities organised by Active Schools, followed by classroom activities, lunch outside and finally our performance to friends and family of the school.
The P5-7 performed a wonderful re-enactment of the coronation. Each house performed two songs, followed by full school dances, even the friends and families joined in too!

Sports Day

On Tuesday 7th June the pupils of Creetown enjoyed taking part in Sports Day.

The sun was shining, and we all enjoyed having a picnic lunch outside. It was wonderful seeing all of the children taking part, trying their best, and cheering each other on.
Well done Kirkdale who won the Sports Day Trophy.
Here are a few photographs from the day.

Jubilee Art

To celebrate the Jubilee we have completed a school art project.

Each individual child has coloured in a piece of our Jubilee picture and it has been pieced together.

I am sure you will agree, it looks fantastic, and the children have done a super job!

Netball League 18th May

On Wednesday 18th May, Creetown Netball Team headed to the Merrick Leisure Centre.

The team worked incredibly well. They had several chances to score and had some great defence skills.

Creetown vs Wigtown

This was the last friendly before the league started. We were off to a wonderful start to the night, when Leah scored for the team. We had some great defence, marking and team work from the whole team.

Creetown vs Whithorn

Our first league game saw Jen score for us. After lots of hard work on shooting she had some great opportunities to score lots more for the team too. Some super defence from Bobby and David too!

Creetown vs Port William

Unfortunately this was a tough game for the team. BUT they didn’t give up. Harry was running all over the court to try and stop Port William from scoring.

We are back to training this week and will keep on practising our shooting skills, ready for our next league matches.

Well Done Team!!

Scottish dancing

In our hall time this week, the nursery children talked about and learned some Scottish dancing. Miss White taught us some highland dancing which we were very good at, and we also practised some country dancing in a circle with our friends.

We also listened to a Scottish band and thought about what instruments we could hear:  “bagpiper”   “drumkit”   “violin”   “accordion”. We then watched a video to see what all of these instruments looked like.

Science Material Hunt

This week in science we have been learning all about materials. We have learned to classify natural and manmade (synthetic) materials and discussed examples of these. After this we went outdoors to hunt for different objects in the playground and identified what kind of materials these objects were made from.

Scots writing

After being introduced to our Scots poems for the year, this week as part of our writing lesson we tried to create some Scots texts of our own. We began by discussing what Scots words we already knew and then had a go at changing some well-known nursery rhymes into Scots. Once we were confident using and understanding some Scots words, we wrote a description about ourselves titled ‘Me Masel’. Miss Milroy was very impressed with our work and thinks our writing will look great displayed beside our collaborative class painting of Robert Burns.

Christmas fun!

ELC children have had lots of fun decorating trees inside and out.

We have all learned about the story of baby Jesus, and Mary & Joseph through role play and our daily advent calendar.

We created lots of wonderful Christmas art.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Santa Live Pantomine

The whole school enjoyed an online Pantomime on Thursday 18th December.

It was called Santa Live.  We really enjoyed the songs, jokes and story.

ELC Christmas Party

All of the children had great fun at our Christmas Party.

We played lots of games and sang some action songs:

  • musical Christmas corners
  • musical bumps
  • musical Christmas statues (freezing as Santa with a sack on his back, or a tree or a fairy/angel)
  • Reindeer Pokey (similar to Hokey Cokey)
  • Santa, Santa, Claus (similar to Duck Duck Goose)
  • Santa’s in his grotto (to the tune Farmers in his den)
  • Christmas tree game (when the music stops, find a tree to stand on)

When we got back in to the nursery we had a tasty party snack!

Reindeer Pokey

(Hands on top of head like antlers)

You put your antlers in,

your antlers out,

in, out, in , out & shake them all about,

You do the reindeer pokey and you turn around,

That’s what it’s all about, SEE!

Oh reindeer pokey cokey,

Oh reindeer pokey cokey,

Oh reindeer pokey cokey,

knees bent, arms stretched,

RA RA RA!

Then:     Right hooves in/out

Left hooves in/out

Little tail in/out

Red nose in/out
