Jam Tasting

As part of our topic this term we have been thinking about how businesses work. We will be creating our own jam later in the term so we started off thinking about market research. We tasted 4 different jams and decided which was our favourite, then created a class pictogram to represent our findings.

Celebrating Burns

This week we have been thinking about why we celebrate Burns night as part of our learning about the Scots language. The children are doing brilliantly with their poems and we have even seen some artwork starting to appear across the school. P1/2 have been busy working on a collaborative picture of Robert Burns whilst P6 /7 have been creating art representing Scottish icons inspired by the artist Gillian Kyle.

P1/2

This week P1/2 have been busy with lots of learning. At the start of the week we explored musical instruments and found out that sound is able to travel because of vibrations. We have also seen lots of great creations as part of our play based learning, and even better some excellent team work! On Friday we learnt about Remembrance Day and along with the rest of the school held our 2 minutes silence. We also made our own poppies- they looked great!

Pupil Council

Our Pupil Council

Last week we elected our Pupil Council. After some fantastic speeches from the children it must have been very hard for them to decide who to vote for but Jacob (P3), Andrew (P4), Sophie (P5), Harry (P6) and Jen (P7) were elected. We had our first meeting this week and it’s clear they have lots of ideas and will be a real help when evaluating and improving our school.

Harvest Assembly

Harvest Assembly

This week P3-4 delivered a brilliant assembly all about Harvest. The children showed great courage speaking confidently in front of the whole school and were really able to show off their learning. We would like to thank everyone for their kind donations to the foodbank, we were blown away by your generosity.

Catapults

This week in P1/2 we found out about catapults as part of our work on castles. On Monday we made our own catapults and tested them out, seeing how far we could fire things and if we could hit the castle. Later in the week we wrote instructions explaining how we made our catapults.

Testing out our catapults!

P5 Hockey

This term in P.E, we are learning about Hockey. We have learned how to pass using different methods – one being a push pass. This week we are learning how to dribble with the hockey ball. We are learning how to control the ball and manipulate our stick in different directions.

Once we had practised our dribbling skills, we held a mini competition of who could dribble around the cones the fastest. Team 2 won both games!

P5 Science

In Science today we were learning about Water. Water has 3 states: liquid (water), solid (ice) and gas (steam).

Kayla: ‘If you put water to 0 degrees it turns to ice. Ice is a solid. ‘

Hilda: ‘If water is over 100 degrees it turns into steam. Steam is a gas.’

Paige: ‘Water is a liquid. It is see through.’

Noah: ‘When you put water into baking powder it turns into a foam. It was still at the bottom so it’s insoluble’

Theo: ‘Salt and sugar both dissolve – they are soluble’

Riley: ‘Sand does not dissolve. It sank to the bottom.’

Sophie: ‘The coffee dissolved and it turned it brown and blackish’

Chloe: ‘When you put water with oil it turned all bubbly.    It was like a lava lamp.’

Riley: ‘The talcum powder looked a little like snow’
