Primary 7 took part in a workshop this week delivered by the S2 Anne Frank Ambassadors from St John’s. This was very engaging and the Primary 7’s enjoyed the workshop, particularly the quiz at the end to test their knowledge of prejudice, discrimination and persecution.
Thank you very much to the S2 pupils and Miss Knox.
This week Primary 7 have been learning about inventions from the Victorian Era and the difference these inventions made to the lives of people during this time. They then worked together to create their own inventions and will take part in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style pitch to convince their classmates that their invention is the best!
This term, Primary 7 have been developing their word-processing skills in a range of contexts and this week they used Powerpoint to create an Instagram profile for Queen Victoria. This allowed the pupils to create a biography of Queen Victoria and evidence all of the learning they have undertaken in our IDL topic. Great job P7, they look fantastic!
Today Primary 7, along with Primary 3, took part in a Scottish Country Dancing Festival which was held at St Andrew’s Primary. Both classes thoroughly enjoyed the festival and put in lots of effort to learn the dances!
Primary 7 took part in Fit Thursday and enjoyed lots of different activities – hockey, gymnastics, dance, yoga and we finished off the day with a whole school mile run!
The focus of class literacy this term in Primary 7 is to develop and improve writing skills, with an emphasis on punctuation, spelling and grammar. This week Primary 7 looked at celebrity tweets, they highlighted spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors with their partners then they worked together to rewrite them.
Reading for pleasure remains a focus this term for the whole school and the Primary 7’s are taking part in the First Minister’s Reading Challenge. They have each set a target of the number of books they would like to read by the 1st May and once they read a book, they record it in their reading passport and add a book to our reading display outside the classroom.
Primary 7 enjoy reading in the class and especially in the comfy Starbooks area!
Primary 7 have been sharing strategies with each other during our number talks – we start with a question or a target number and they work in partners to solve it. Children will share their strategy with other pairs and together we will discuss all the different ways we can arrive at the same answer.
Countdown is a popular game in Primary 7 – the challenge is to use the numbers available and the four standard operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) to hit the target. There is an online version that children can access at home: https://nrich.maths.org/6499
Primary 7 were given a choice of two topics for this term and voted for the Victorian Era, they worked in groups and created a list of things they want to learn about the Victorians.
