Primary 7 – Class Literacy

The focus of class literacy this term in Primary 7 is to develop and improve writing skills, with an emphasis on punctuation, spelling and grammar.  This week Primary 7 looked at celebrity tweets, they highlighted spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors with their partners then they worked together to rewrite them.

Primary 7 – Reading Challenge

Reading for pleasure remains a focus this term for the whole school and the Primary 7’s are taking part in the First Minister’s Reading Challenge.  They have each set a target of the number of books they would like to read by the 1st May and once they read a book, they record it in their reading passport and add a book to our reading display outside the classroom.

Primary 7 enjoy reading in the class and especially in the comfy Starbooks area!

Primary 7 – Numeracy

Primary 7 have been sharing strategies with each other during our number talks  – we start with a question or a target number and they work in partners to solve it. Children will share their strategy with other pairs and together we will discuss all the different ways we can arrive at the same answer.

Countdown is a popular game in Primary 7 – the challenge is to use the numbers available and the four standard operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) to hit the target.  There is an online version that children can access at home: https://nrich.maths.org/6499
