Creative Writing!

This term we are focusing on figurative language (imagery).  So far we have focused on similes.  Primary 6 worked together to generate ideas and similes for their creative writing.  Their writing task for this and next week is ‘To write a scary mystery story.’

They worked in small groups and were given 3 different “spooky” locations.  They had to write as many similes to describe the setting.  They used their senses to help.

Now p6 have an excellent bank of similes to help them with their writing! Well done!

Wonder!

This week primary 6 watched  ‘Wonder’ in class.

This was a great opportunity for the children to put faces to names of all characters in the book.  The film reinforced the 3  themes that we have been exploring, which are: tackling bullying, understanding similarities and differences and not to judge others by their appearance.

The film was a great resource to consolidate learning.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the movie and popcorn!

KAPLA FUN!

Primary 6 have been making great use of having their own kapla box in class.

Kapla is loved by everyone in p6 and gives an opportunity for the children to apply their problem solving and creativity skills.  It has an element of architecture and allows children to think logically and develop their spatial awareness.

Primary 6 will continue to engage with kapla as it has many benefits!

Active Maths!

Primary 6 had fun this week doing different maths activities.  All of the activities allowed them to apply all of their prior and new knowledge for place value.

They worked great together and shared all of their learning with each other.

Some of the activities included- Crack the City Code ~(Problem solving), What is the number? (place value riddle), Find the missing number (applying strategies to add and subtract).

Well done Primary 6!

I am a wonder!

Primary 6 have been using our class novel “Wonder” to explore their individual qualities.

They completed the activity, “I am a Wonder because…”

Here are some pictures of finished pieces.  This was a lovely opportunity to hear what the children think of themselves and others.

See our completed display at the open night on Tuesday 24th of September!
