This week in P.E. we worked on our teamwork and communication skills through games of ambiguity! We have established rules, boundaries, and scoring systems so that our peers can take part. We furthered our learning back in the classroom, by talking about how P.E helps us to develop physically, mentally, emotionally and socially.
Primary 6 Social Studies Vikings
This week in our Viking topic, we have been looking at the lives of Viking Children, and the similarities and differences between theirs and ours. We had two very special visitors, Erikson and Frejya! They gave us the opportunity to ask all the questions we have been pondering! Our Viking fact files are coming along nicely, and this week we will be starting on Chapter 3; Viking Homes.
Primary 6 Play in a Pod
Play in a Pod time helps us to improve our creativity and imagination skills! This week, we made a viking Longship out of crates and a Viking home out of wooden pallets. Play in a Pod also allows us to work on our teamwork skills, and gives us a great opportunity to display our learning in a unique setting away form the classroom!
Primary 6 Literacy Book Club
After a very busy, challenging and successful morning in numeracy, Miss Nimmo told us that our brain’s needed a rest. We spent our literacy time enjoying our own reading. We got comfy and settled, and read our own choice of book! After reading for 30 minutes, we chatted to our neighbours, comparing what we were reading and making suggestions for future reads. We will be sure to make more time for reading for enjoyment in future!
Primary 6 Homework
We were given a homework grid at the start of term, filled with lots of educational activities that relate to our class topics. Just look at Fabian’s wonderful Viking Longboat! This was made from materials that you have around the house; old cereal boxes, scrap paper and a straw.
Primary 6 ICT through Social Studies Viking Fact Files
This week’s ICT time was spent working on our Viking Topic. Using our knowledge of the Vikings and what their lives were like; our knowledge of the layout of books; and our ICT skills, we were able to create a contents page, and chapter covers for our Viking Fact Files! “It’s great that even though we are learning the same stuff, all of our designs look so different!”, said Kieran. The finished fact files will be available for reading at the end of Term 1.
Primary 6 Literacy Debates
This term in literacy, we will be looking at our tools for talking and listening. In doing so, we will look at debating! This week we had our first mini-debates! We were given a topic and asked to choose either ‘for’ or ‘against’, then we had to prepare our argument. We are learning how important it is to be confident, respectful and knowledgeable when taking part.
Primary 6 Maths Measurement
This week in maths we have been working on our understanding of measurement. We have been learning how to measure perimeter and we have been working on our estimation skills. We estimated the perimeter of our textbooks; our desks; our classroom; and finally the perimeter of the school grounds! Next week, we will convert the measurements we found, into different units! Sky said “It’s so good to get outside and get a real life measurement!”. Many of the children have said they will try to measure the perimeter of their home!
Primary 6 Health and Wellbeing P.E.
This week in P.E. we were working on our team building and communication skills! Miss Nimmo explained that P.E. isn’t just a chance to keep fit, but it can also help your emotional, social and mental development too! We were assigned a team, given random bits of equipment, and allowed to create our own games for the rest of the class to try!
