Self Portraiture – Hatching and Cross-Hatching

P5/6 have been learning about portraiture as part of our IDL this term – Mary Queen of Scots.  Pupils have started to look at various portraits of Mary throughout history discussing likes/dislikes.

As an introduction to creating self-portraits in a medium/style of their own choosing, pupils learned how to sketch themselves in pencil using a computer printed image of themselves.  P5/6 were taught the hatching and cross-hatching techniques to add depth and definition to their artwork.

Please look at some examples of pupils work below.

    1. Hello Tattiana, I’m pleased to hear that you enjoyed learning about cross-hatching. You will certainly be given opportunities to use this technique again in portraiture before the end of term. Thank you for your comment 🙂 Mrs Robertson.
