We thought we would try out the story telling section of our school’s outdoor classroom today. We were chilly but it was nice to be outside for a change. We really like the outdoor classroom.

We used Lego to make a toy. We spoke about what kind of toy we wanted to make and about some of the things that we thought might not be suitable. Then we got to work.
We made some amazing designs and we described them to the rest of the class. As you can see, we are really good at listening to our classmates.
We had a special visitor on Wednesday. Her name was Mrs Gunning – she is Miss Gunning’s mummy!!
Mrs Gunning told us all about the kind of toys she played with when she was a little girl. She said that she only got toys from Santa at Christmas. Not at any other time throughout the year. We couldn’t believe it! She also showed us some toys that Miss Gunning played with when she was a little girl.
She brought in some of the toys and we got to play with them. Andrasta and Jessica had a tea party, Blaike and Teya played doctors, Gene and Liam H loved the tiddly winks, Connor and Halli had a game of marbles and Dylan and Bethanie liked snakes and ladders.
After we had played with the toys, we got into groups and put the toys into different categories. Old, New or both. We worked so hard that Miss Gunning let us play with the toys again at the end of the lesson.
What an exciting day!
We have started our fortnightly visits to Menzieshill Library. We choose a book, take our card to the desk and take the book back to school. Miss Gunning makes sure we have time to look at and read our books in school before we take them back to the library. We even saw a birds nest really high up in a tree on our walk to the library. It was very exciting!
Our Autumn party was a great success. Miss Gunning was really impressed with our costumes.
We had some games and dancing in the hall with P1 and P3 then we had a snack, some more dancing and a spooky story in our classroom. Continue reading Autumn Party
We had great fun ordering coins today. We used play dough and a toy train to show our learning. Next, we will learn to use money in our class Toy Shop!
Mr McLean came to see us today and introduced us to Kodaly. Kodaly uses simple songs, rhythms and actions to help the children understand musical concepts.
We are looking forward to working with Mr McLean again next week.
This term, we have been learning different ball skills. Here we are using stations to demonstrate our learning. We used throwing, bouncing, kicking and catching.
We have been building on our knowledge of doubles from last year using bigger numbers. We used numicon and mirrors to find doubles to 10 and counters for doubles to 20.
Pirate Pete sent George to us with another challenge this week. He brought a treasure chest with him. It was very exciting. We had to draw places on a treasure map then label the map. We were able to tell our classmates and teacher what you had to do to find the treasure.
