A Present You Can Open Again And Again

The final book giftings from the National Literacy’s National Young Readers’ Programme are happening this week.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, well I think the one above does just that. However, click on it and see another picture that says it all!

Picture Book Training is Underway πŸ€“

This week we have been training P6 pupils to read picture books to an audience.

Steve Soave, 81 Films, was able to accompany Elaine to some classes and you can get a flavour of how her training sessions went down here. It was lovely to see some pupils feeling confident enough to read to their class. Great training Elaine, fantastic learning P6!

The Wonder of Picture Books πŸ˜€

This week has been such a treat! Every class has made us feel so welcome. Pupils have demonstrated fantastic listening skills and engaged enthusiastically with the books.

The mature approach, comments and attitude of the children has been extremely impressive. Elaine and I are very excited about our visits to train pupils in the art of reading to the P1s!

Once again Steve Soave, 81 Films, has kindly given us permission to use his photographs. They give a wee insight into the way the P6’s are getting stuck into the job of analysing the picture book genre.

Dundee Picture Book Award 2018

Well it has started! Yes we have been out and about meeting the Primary 6 pupils taking part in this year’s Picture Book Award.

Steve Soave, 81 Films, has been accompanying us to some classes to capture what goes on! He’s also taken some photos which you can view here along with photos we have taken as well. Can you guess which ones were taken by the professional? I bet you can:-)

It’s A Wrap!

5 hours of wrapping and worth every minute! Once again, the customers at Waterstones have supported the Wishing Tree with incredible generosity and thoughtfulness. Dundee Young Carers are in for a wonderful treat when they receive their presents at their Christmas party tomorrow.

A huge thank you  to everyone involved 😁

Wishing Tree πŸŽ„

Michelle Sloan, author of The Fourth Bonniest Baby in Dundee, launched this year’s Wishing Tree with kind words and aplomb!

If you would like to gift a book to a Young Carer nip along to Waterstones, between now and Saturday 17th December, select a tag from the tree and buy a book. On Monday 18th Elaine and I will wrap up all the books and deliver them to the Dundee Young Carers’ Centre where they will be distributed at the Christmas Party. Bish, bash, bosh!
