And Your Host is JASON VIT!

#LiteracyinScotland  presented by @HolyroodEvents and hosted by Jason Vit from the National Literacy Trust was absolutely splendid!

When you take a day away from the office you really want it to be worthwhile and I was not disappointed. Covering the role of schools, libraries, culture and the family home as points where literacy can be embedded and nurtured within a pupil’s world. Each speaker brought something very different to the table. Their passion and commitment was almost tangible. It was a thought provoking and uplifting day.

Crazy Creatures 🤩

Pupils in Ancrum Road and Glebelands Primaries were treated to a visit from the completely splendid author Gill Arbuthnott last week. (Click here for photos).

Gill enthralled her audiences with details of, and facts about, the creatures in her book. From lizards that shoot blood from their eyes to shrews that travel in caravans!

On top of a fantastic author session, every pupil received a copy of Crazy Creatures to keep and Gill signed each one to make it even more special!

We’re Talking ‘Bout Teddies in Dundee This Summer

We have been successful in an application to Carnegie UK Trust and Wellcome Trust for funding to support an early years project in collaboration with Dr Suzanne Zeedyk.
In Dundee libraries, we want to celebrate the importance of Teddy Bears, and highlight the impact they have for children’s emotional well-being, and their contribution to children’s resilience.  This will be happening over the next few months, and will impact on every library in Dundee.  Please click here for further details.

Today we were filming our thoughts so far, on the project.  The Teddies had a lot to say!

It’s Good to Share!

All over the City P1’s are enjoying the 4 titles on the Dundee Picture Book Award 2018 Shortlist.

Photos provided by Steve Soave, of 81films, show  how seriously our upper primary pupils are taking the responsibility of reading to a young audience. And, how much the wee ones are enjoying being read to by the older children.

We had an incredible day at SWIIS with some wonderful people who Foster. Elaine provided informative, entertaining and fun training which will allow SWIIS to establish its own Book Bug Sessions. We also had a great chat with some Foster carers about  books which might appeal to their young people and ways to access them.  Thank you for inviting us along and please keep in touch:-)
