2 Moons Event at Discovery

The first of 3 Journalism Workshops took place at Discovery Point on Thursday 7th February.  After a guided tour of the ship, time in the museum and a spot of lunch, Morag Lindsay (News Editor of the Courier) and Gus Proctor (Graphic Artist)  put our young people through their paces. Click on the image above to see their amazing results.

Balloon to Moon

The Two Moons Festival kicked off with a particularly pertinent author visit! Gill Arbuthnott’s new book, Balloon to Moon, explores the Moon landings and is due to be published in June to commemorate 50 years since the momentous event of man’s first steps on the lunar surface.

As well as talking about her own memories of watching Neil Armstrong’s moonwalk on a small black and white TV, Gill also shared tips for writing non-fiction and the importance of excellent information skills.

And they’re off!

All 17 classes taking part in this year’s Picture Book Award have been visited twice to introduce them to what they have to do, and, provide some training.  We have really enjoyed meeting you all and know the P1 pupils in your schools will be in for a real treat.  As long as you remember to practise, practise, practise you will be absolutely AMAZING!  During some of our visits we were accompanied by Steve Soave, 81films. He has kindly provided us with some great photos taken during the visits. Click here to have a keek!

The Return of Elaine!

After a shaky start to the year, with a nasty chest infection, Elaine is now back in the saddle. She loved meeting the classes taking part in this year’s Dundee Picture Book Award. They were just the tonic she needed!

Booktopia!

Mr Jamieson and his class have created the perfect reading space in Glebelands Primary School.

A relaxed, contemporary and groovy environment has been created for pupils to chill and enjoy a good read. What’s not to love:-)

Dundee Picture Book Award 2019

Our first visits for this year’s Picture Book Award are underway and what a wonderful welcome we have received from the classes we’ve met so far.  P6 pupils have listened attentively and demonstrated a very mature approach whilst showing obvious enjoyment at the fun of revisiting picture books.  What a great start!

BOOM! We’re Back in the Room!

Happy New Year everyone!

It’s been a while since we’ve popped up a post but we haven’t been twiddling our thumbs. In fact, quite the opposite.  We careened toward the end of last term with lots of school visits, organising the Wishing Tree and planning for this year’s Picture Book Award, a literary/literacy festival called 2 Moons (for secondary schools), and, a big World Book Day event.

So, 2019 is set to be jam packed with exciting stuff and we will try to make sure we keep you posted!
