Reading Rings
We know that reading really helps in all areas of learning and we’re trying to promote reading for enjoyment withing school – reading is great! Our School Library stock is being revamped at present with lots of books being bought using the money raised at recent events. P5, P6 and P7 children have also started to enjoy Reading Rings in class and are getting the chance to read and to share lots of new books by a range of authors and in a range of styles. Pictured are children from P5/6D taking part in group activities on the novels which they have chosen to read. More information on Reading Rings will be available at our upcoming Parents Evenings.
New School Building
Tuesday’s Evening Telegraph reported that planning permission has been granted for the new shared campus, with some minor conditions. Should be full speed ahead then from this summer when work is scheduled to start. More info soon.
St Paul’s India Charity Evening
St Paul’s Academy is holding an India Charity Evening next Thursday, 3rd March, at 7.20pm, to raise funds for their Mangamanuthu Project. This important work is providing homes and school facilities for a very poor village in India. Please support this event. There will be lots of entertainment including traditional Indian dancers and musicians, and a chance to taste some authentic Indian cuisine.
Breaking News – St Clement’s gains Health and Wellbeing recognition
After the accreditation visit yesterday, we have heard this morning that we have been awarded Silver Health Promoting Schools status and are on our way to Gold. Congratulations to everyone, especially the children and staff guided by Mrs Donnelly who have led the way in this important part of school life. Healthy lives are happy lives!
Fairtrade Focus
Childsmile
The Childsmile Dental Health team is in school today, continuing the tooth varnish programme with P1-4 which has proved to be so effective in reducing tooth decay.
Regular, at least twice daily, brushing is still important, of course, and our P1 daily toothbrushing programme with Miss Lawrence (our Health and Wellbeing Assistant) helps to embed this important habit and supports parents’ efforts at home.
Consultation with Parents about School Handbooks
Message from Taletta Jamieson, Parental Involvement Officer for the Education Department:
There will be a Consultation Meeting regarding the School Handbook on Thursday 3rd March at Morgan Academy, Forfar Road, Dundee at 7p.m., with Lorraine Sanda of the Scottish Government. A series of these Engagement Events is taking place around the country. In order for this consultation to be as effective as possible please could you inform your parents, Parent Councils and staff that this meeting will be taking place.
From Lorraine Sanda, Parental Involvement Co-ordinator, Scottish Government:
“With the introduction of Curriculum for Excellence, there is a need for the “handbook” to be refreshed and updated, and to ensure that the information schools provide is relevant and helpful for parents. The Consultation will provide parents, Parent Councils, staff and local authorities with an opportunity to review the existing requirements and recommend any changes. If necessary, new legislation will be introduced to reflect the views coming from the Consultation”.
It is the school’s intention to include the St Clement’s Handboook within our website, which is under development just now. All ideas and suggestions are very welcome.
