Bugsy Malone

Well done to Primary 5, Primary 6/7F & Primary 6/7M for their fantastic production of Bugsy Malone.  All of the staff at St.Clement’s are extremely proud of the effort and enthusiasm that went into making the performance a roaring success.  There are so many talented children at our school and certainly a few stars in the making.

Dundee Picture Book Awards

We have been working with Primary 1 as part of our job for the Dundee Picture Book Awards which has been organised by Moira Foster and Elaine Halliburton.  We had to read four different picture books to the Primary 1 pupils and organise a ballot for the children to choose their favourite picture book.  The four books were enjoyed by the boys and girls of both classes but the Primary 1s decided that Silly Doggy was their favourite.  Here are some photographs of us reading the books to the Primary 1s.

Crime Scene – DO NOT ENTER

On Friday 8th March, we were visited by a forensic scientist.  Sarah Clement came in to speak to us about her job and what she had to study at school in order for her to study Forensics at university.  Sarah told us all about the different aspects of her job and how important her duties are in helping the police solve crimes.  She also brought in all of the protective wear that she has to wear each day at work.  We had to race to see how quickly we could kit up.

Thank you so much, Sarah, for teaching us a little bit about forensic biology.

Fairtrade Coffee Morning

To help celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight, the Fairtrade Steering Group organised a Fairtrade coffee morning which was held on Friday 01 March.  The coffee morning was enjoyed by all and was great success.  Well done to the pupils of Primary 6/7F and Primary 6/7M for all of their hard work in raising awareness of different Fairtrade organisations.

Table Tennis Taster

Over the past two weeks we have been visited by sports students who have been teaching us how to play table tennis.  We have been learning how to hold the paddle correctly (using the pistol grip) and have been developing our forehand and backhand.  Today will be our last session of table tennis.

Blood & Guts

Throughout our Science topic we will be learning about the different systems within our body.  So far we have looked at the function of the heart and lungs.  We carried out an experiment that showed us how the diaphragm works.

Wonder Assembly

On the 23rd November 2012 p6/7F did an assembly about our book study called Wonder. We took quotes from the novel and created a short play about it.  Wonder is written by RJ Palacio.  We took time doing it and it turned out to be a really good assembly.

The book is about a 10 year old boy called August who was born with a facial disfigurement, RJ Palacio states in the blurb that we should not “Judge a boy by his face”.  August is about to start his new school at Beecher Prep and August is scared about how people at his school will react to his face. During one scene August’s sister Via takes August to the park and two children come along and when they see August’s face they stand in shock.  As Via is very protective of Auggie she shouts at them and chases them off.  Auggie would prefer if she just ignored them.

Also in another scene Auggie started his first day at Beecher Prep and when the bell rang all of the children started pointing and staring and him, but when lunchtime arrives Auggie meets a new friend called Summer and she goes to sit with her friends but notices that Auggie is sitting by himself and walks over and sits next to him and gets to know Auggie.  He is a funny, intelligent, kind and smart boy and Summer took time to get to know this and to find out how nice he really is on the inside. She didn’t judge a book by its cover.

So if you get the chance someday you should read the novel “Wonder”.
