Staff Working Hard

Teachers, Supoprt Staff and Facilities Staff were all hard at work today, spending our In Service Training Day in a number of workshops on supporting pupils, moderating the marking of writing and curriculum developments. Some were also hard at work moving furniture around in preparation for our room moves in a few weeks when we lose the use of rooms 1-4 to allow building of the new school – more information on this soon. Thanks to all staff for their input and hard work today – keeping St Clement’s moving forwards.

P7s visit St John’s

P7s who will be transferring to St John’s after the summer visited this afternoon – we’ll hear all about it tomorrow! On top of recent visits to St Paul’s, Menzieshill and Harris, all of our P7s have now had a chance to visit their new schools and been given lots of information. Dates for the June visits are: 7/8/9 – St Paul’s Ac. and St John’s H.S.; 14/15/16 Menzieshill HS (14 at Menzieshill Community Centre); 15/16 Harris Academy. If you need any more information, please phone St Clement’s.

P7 Continental Breakfast at St Paul’s

Our P7s who are going to St Paul’s after the summer enjoyed a Continental Breakfast today at St Paul’s courtesy of the Modern Languages department. A good feast was had by all, and the children showed off the considerable learning progress they have made in French with Miss Smith and Mrs Dammer this year. A big thank you to Mrs Doig for transporting everyone up in the St Paul’s minibus, and to all the St Paul’s staff who were very welcoming. The children also received a pack explaining what will be going on during their 3 day visit on 7/8/9 June.

Breaking news………Football Success

A big well done to the footballers from P5, 6 and 7 who today exceeded all expectations by reaching the final of the Meikleham Cup at Gussie Park. They fought through their section with a win, a draw and a defeat, then edged out St Andrew’s Primary in the semi-final. We’re really proud of all the boys – their play was great and their sportsmanship exemplary even though they were so disappointed to be pipped by an excellent St Mary’s PS team (which included former classmate Javade – big congratulations to them) in the final.
Well done, Ciaran, Daniel, Kian, Reece, Lee, Jomi, Brian and Connor. You were great ambassadors for our school – you’ve proved that success and good sportsmanship can go together and you deserve your medals as competition runners-up.
Thanks to the competition organisers – everything went really smoothly.

Some public health information……….

From Dr Christopher McGuigan, Consultant in Public Health Medicine in Tayside:

‘There has been a recent increase in the numbers of measles cases in Scotland and the rest of the UK, mainly affecting younger adults. Many of the cases have been associated with recent travel abroad especially to France. A number of current measles outbreaks have been reported from France, Belgium and Switzerland.
Measles is highly infectious and can be a dangerous illness. It spreads easily in schools, universities and summer camps. Those who are not fully immunised with two doses of MMR are most at risk of developing measles.
As we approach the time of year when many children and students are travelling abroad on summer trips and family holidays, NHS Tayside, in common with other NHS boards, are urging parents to protect their children against measles. If you child has missed out on one or both of their doses of MMR vaccine, please consider getting your child fully immunised with MMR before you travel abroad during the summer break. Please contact your GP or practice nurse to arrange vaccination as soon as possible.’
