Wk beg. 13.1.20

Hi all, Happy New Year, hope you all had a fabulous break and are looking forward to 2020.

We have had a busy start to the new term with a new topic, novel and new areas to learn about in maths.

In maths, we have been focusing on division. Some of the groups have been using the written algorithm for division and this has been a new concept which has tricky at times.

We have a new novel called “The Land of Roar” by Jenny McLachlan. It is about twins that made up an imaginary land called Roar when they were 5. They are now 11 and Grandad has been taken into the land of Roar by the scarecrow Crowky. They need to return to Roar and save Grandad. We are loving it so far.

On Thursday, we had a visit from the SSPCA and we worked of some robot cats. We had to code the robot cat based on our information cards. They explained the feelings that the cat was experiencing due to the situation it was in. We enjoyed the session and this helped us think about animal welfare.

Also on Thursday, we watched the Live Lesson on the BBC about this years, 500 words competition. We will be working on our stories for the competition over the coming weeks. We are all very excited about the fact that the final is being held at Buckingham Palace and would love to get there!

Our new topic is Body Systems. We are building on our prior knowledge of the human body and thinking about how the different systems like the digestive and respiratory systems work. We will also be talking about how smoking, drugs and alcohol effect the body and these systems.

We will keep you posted on twitter and Seesaw with our pieces of information and pictures!
