Our class assembly

Just a little reminder to all of our parents, our class assembly will take place on Monday 28th May at 9.15am in the school gym hall.  We hope that you can all come along and join us!

We are looking forward to learning our lines and practising next week so that we will be ready for our performance.

Health Week

We have had such a great time during Health week this week.  We have been very busy in the classroom as well as in and around the school.  We have been very lucky to take part in activities such  as, cycling, rugby, football, yoga, earth ball and Tae Kwon Do, aswell as enjoying a huge variety of puzzles during our puzzle day on Thursday. These really got us thinking and working together in our teams.  Have a look at our photos below to see how much fun we have been having…

My favourite part of health week was doing Tae Kwon do because we got to punch the pads. (Joshua P1)

I liked puzzle day best because we got to do lots of different activities. (Keeley P1)

Yoga was my favourite because I liked doing the stretches. (Eryn P2)

My favourite thing was Tae Kwon Do because I did some punching and kicking. (Lee P2)

I liked Tae Kwon Do because I liked the kicking part. (Angel P2)

My favourite part was using the Earth Ball because I got to try and beat Mrs Ross to the ball. (Emily P2)

Money, Money, Money!

P1/2 have been working with money this week in maths.   We have been identifying all of the coins, counting money, creating amounts using different combinations of coins and giving change, P1 pupils from 10p and P2 pupils from 20p.  The P2 pupils have also been very busy working with word problems.  We read the problem, work out whether it is an adding or subtracting sum, write the sum and then work out the answer.  Oh, it’s hard work in here!  After all this practice this week, we hope that we will be able to open our Fruit shop next week and run it successfully, adding up shopping and giving change correctly…

This week we created our new cooperative learning teams.  We have got the Juicy Tomatoes, Lemony Squash, Healthy Apples, The Fruit Bowls and The Super Duper Pears.  Great names that fit in very well to our Healthy Living Theme.   The groups have created a new member for their teams and they have all  managed to label their new members body parts successfully.  Take a look below…

We can’t wait to make our skeleton pictures next week!

It’s the final term…

P1/2 came back to school on Monday all refreshed and ready to start all of the work planned for this term. We are going to be very busy over the next few weeks with our maths and Literacy work, our new theme, Healthy Living, health week and puzzle days, sport’s week and of course our class assembly.  This will take place on Monday 28th May in our gym hall at 9.15am.  Take a wee note in your diaries as it would be lovely to see all of our parents there!

Open Evening and Sport Relief

P1/2 would like to say a huge thank you to all of our friends and family that came along to our open evening last week.  We have really enjoyed the Mario Kart theme and completing the work and we really appreciate everyone coming along to see everything that was on display.   We also need to say thanks to the people who had a race on the wii. Our class raised £14.50 for Sports Relief so well done!! Liam Francis in P5 was the Lucky winner of the Easter Bunny prize!

A great time was had by all, our open evening was a huge success, thanks again.

We also had great fun on Friday 23rd March when we took part in the assault courses to raise money for Sports Relief also…check out the Photos below!

We have had great fun this term and we are looking forward to seeing what next term will bring…

Happy Holidays Everyone!!!

Our Maximec Car Designs and Science Experiment

This week we had a bit of a science investigation/experiment going on in our class.  We have been learning about FRICTION  and we now know that Friction is a force that slows you down.  We wanted to carry out an experiment to find out how friction would affect the speed of a car going down a ramp on different surfaces?

It was a lot of fun doing the experiment and measuring the distance the car had travelled using pens.  When we looked at our results, we discovered that the car went faster down the smooth surfaces because there was less friction to slow it down and that it went slower down the bumpy surfaces because there was more friction.  Before we did the experiment we tried to guess what would happen, only a few of us were right with our predictions.  It was fun finding out!!

Busy Busy Building!

We have been so busy this week in P1/2.

Our racing teams faced a building challenge this week, using the Maximec construction materials.  Could they work together to build a car that would hold one of their team members?  Sure they could!  However before we started the challenge we had a discussion about what we would see and hear during group work.  Working together, everyone contributing, sharing ideas and resources, being kind and listening to each other were a few of the things we decided.  During our writing time this week, we created posters showing all of our ideas of what team work would involve.  We can now display them around the room to remind us.

Back to our challenge though…All of our teams worked really well together, have a look at our photos, can you see anyone who isn’t engaged in the task???????

A couple of our teams have some finishing touches to add to their cars so we will add our photos when they are all complete.

We have also been busy building a pop-up book on the online programme ‘Zooburst’.  We have been creating a book about our racing teams, sharing our names and who is in the team.  We have learned how to change the background colour of our pages, how to add other pages, how to type some narrative and how to locate and upload a photograph from our shared folder.  This is quite an exciting job and we look forward to sharing our books with you!

Racing Car Designs!

We have had another great week this week, we have learned lots of new things but our favourite job this week was designing our very own racing cars!  We had lots of fun doing this and we came up with some fabulous designs.

Ross S has some fast Rocket launchers on his car, Emma has a very scary face on her car because she wants to scare the other racers away so that she can win, Ava has some springs on her car so that she can jump over the other cars, Harris has some rockets behind his wheels so that he can stay in the air and Ava can’t jump over him and Loklan has a cool flag on his to distract the other drivers.  We have got some very sneaky boys and girls in P1/2.

Look out for our photos and descriptions of our cars.  We hope you will like them!
