A few reminders about the novels!

Troops, don’t forget that whenever you discuss Poor Things and Lanark, you should always return to the subversiveness and rebelliousness of the characters in relation to the societies they inhabit.  Neither Bella nor Lanark nor Duncan are in harmony with the societies they inhabit.  List the ways in which they are in DISharmony.  Consider how setting and symbolism are combined to depict societies hostile to the main protagonists of the texts.  Practise writing about key incidents and passages in each text.  In what ways are the incidents each significant?  How does the action or response of each character develop our understanding of them and of central themes in the texts?  How do the characters’ quests or journeys convey important political and social messages?  In what ways is power relevant to each text?

Keep going.  You can do it.  Find past papers on the SQA site.
