Hi Everyone,
Welcome to our last Health Hero for this week, our key focus has been looking at our Mental, Physical and Social Wellbeing.
Dame Evelyn Glennie began to lose her hearing aged 8 and became profoundly deaf aged 12 however this did not stop her in becoming one of the most famous percussionists on an international level.
I’d like to finish this week off with another local hero who embraces all aspects of Music and has achieved so much by showing some determination and having a growth mindset!
We’ll be back Next Tuesday for some sport themed Health Heroes.
As always please leave some comments for Dame Evelyn Glennie to see!
This is fabulous to have such an inspirational person talk to us. We talk at school about resilience and a ‘can do’ /growth mindset approach- Evelyn Glennie truly has that attitude. I love hearing her speak about her music and what it means to her. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and memories of Methlickππ
Hello, that was very inspiring and I loved seeing all the amazing instruments.
They all looked fascinating, Emily – I hardly recognised any of them. She is so passionate about her music, isn’t she?
Great to see wasn’t it Emily, she has so many different instruments.
I liked the music that you made with the instrument on your lap it was lovely and soft. I thought it was magical.

I loved this video. Evelyn is so inspiring. I loved looking at all the different instruments in the room. I wonder what percussion instruments there are at Methlick? The last instrument she played sounded amazing and I have never heard it before. I will have to do some research on it.
That was really good. I did not know there were so many different instruments, her collection is amazing.

Wow. That was great.
My mum remembers her coming to play with an orchestra at her high school when she was young. It was Lochaber High School in Fort William. She remembers loving it as it was her first live orchestra she’d heard. She remembers the vibrations through the wooden floor.
Wowee Erin what a lovely memory and experience your mum has to tell you. Glad you enjoyed watching π
All these lovely comments about music- I feel we need to get some sort of Methlick Music group going once we are all back in the building again.

My mum played a young Evelin Glennie in a Chinese documentary about her young life when she was at Ellon academy. She was picked because she played drums and percussion and was taught by Evelin Glennies teacher!
