Eco Schools Litter and Waste Live Lesson

This is the lesson from Eco Schools that we did on Monday:

Litter is a serious problem.  It looks awful, affects our health and well-being and harms wildlife.

Just in time for our annual Spring Clean Scotland campaign, we’re offering a live lesson all about Litter & Waste, with special guests from Scottish SPCA and Auchindrain Historic Township.  Join us with your class or Eco-Committee on 21st March for a full morning of workshops.  Lessons will be accompanied by classroom activities to do during the workshops and throughout the week and both sessions will be recorded for you to watch again later.

No one is too small to make a difference.

Here are our decomposition experiments:

Thanks Simpsons and Mrs Wheeler Again

Mrs Wheeler wrote to Simpsons Garden Centre in Mintlaw and this is their reply. Well done Mrs Wheeler and a big thanks to Simpsons.

Subject: ECO group, Green Flag Award

Good afternoon Victoria and thanks for getting in touch with us about your gardening plans for Arnage school with your ECO group. I would be delighted to give you some seeds towards your project, it’s the perfect time to start propagating to have ready in time for spring and summer. I will also be able to include a voucher to use in store towards other items for your project. All that we would ask is that you let us know how you’re getting on and send us pics of your project.

We don’t have a schools programme as such, but Becca from our team in Mintlaw is available if you want to pop in for any advice. Also as ambassadors for Cultivation Street, I would recommend also having a look at their website for inspiration and resources for your project. You can also register and enter their annual competition for school and community garden projects, visit their website at: https://cultivationstreet.com

If you can confirm the postal address for the school, I’ll have these items posted to you asap.

Kind regards

Bee bombs

Well done Mrs Wheeler. She applied for the school to get some bee bombs and was successful.  We’ll be getting a whole load of wild flower seeds to plant in our wildlife garden.

Big Schools Birdwatch

We were out in the cold (and the rain for a bit) this afternoon. Got the whole school out and spotted 10 different species of bird in the end. Great effort.

Well Done Astrid

She made these great posters to encourage everyone to do the Big Garden Birdwatch last weekend. We are going to do the Big Schools Birdwatch in the next few weeks.

Plant an Apple Tree

We’ve signed up to the nationwide scheme to plant a heritage apple tree for our school. We’re looking forward to planting it in March.
