Lifecycle of a butterfly

Caitlin has been growing butterflies from their first stages as a chrysalis right through. Here are some pictures of their life cycle. Great work Caitlin, finding out more about the diversity of creatures in the world, and thanks for sharing with us.

Things that were growing in the garden

These are some of the things we grew in the polytunnel and the garden. The caterpillars got to the kol rabi but we did get a few tomatoes and raspberries. We also got some salad leaves and some herbs. We had some good flowers in our wildlife garden.

New Eco Group and Apples Already

Weave got new members in our eco group for the start of term. Looking forward to continuing the amazing work last year’s group did. We’ve got till Christmas to complete our action plan for our Bronze award.

We’ve also got apples already on the apple tree we planted last year. A great start.

Blamedie OnePlanet picnic and Litter Pick

We had a brilliant day at. Balmedie last week. We collected two full bags of litter – around 20kg. After all our work in the morning we were ready for our oneplanet picnic. We mostly did really well not to use any single use plastic, so there was virtually no litter for us to throw away from our own visit. Lots of parents came to join us as well for the afternoon playing in the park and on the dunes.

Biodiversity Live Lesson with Eco-Schools Scotland

Last week we learnt more about biodiversity around Scotland. We looked at how to improve it and why it is being threatened. The big class did live online workshops on Monday morning and we also took part in a live assembly on Friday. We liked finding out about wolves especially.

Today is Earth Day

Today is Earth Day. As well as learning more about this at our assembly (see our other post) we did a live lesson this morning with a story teller who told the story of the gigantic mafumeira tree in the tropical rainforest in Brazil. We learned about deforestation and thought about things we could do to look after our planet. A lot of the things we have already started doing in our Eco Group and in the school.

Children’s Rights and the Environment

In our assembly today we learned that the UNCRC want to give advice around the world on Children’s Rights and the Environment. They are going to write a General Comment which they will share with governments everywhere. It will explain what governments around the world must do to make sure that children and young people live in a clean, green, healthy and sustainable world. But they want to hear what children have to say about it before they write it. To do this they have created a form which we have put on Google Classroom for everyone to fill in.

There’s a link here too.
