    Introduction

Mrs Young from the Scottish Parliament very kindly came to visit p5/20 on Wednesday the 27th of February to teach them about the Scottish Parliament. They had ace fun learning about it! Mrs Young was an education worker from the scottish parliament, which means she goes to schools and teaches them about the parliament. It was quite good that she came to the class of p5/20 because their topic is actually the Scottish Parliament! here is what happened.

Facts about the parliamenet and assemblies.

Mrs Young told us about the parliamants and assemblies.
In the UK there are 2 parliaments, the Scottish parliament which is in Hollyrood,Edinburgh and Westminister which is in London, England. There are also assemblies, one in London, Cardiff, Northeren Ireland and one in Belfast, Wales. There are 129 members of the Scottish parliament, in 1999 the Scottish parliament was built and ready but people werent aloud to work in it until 2004! The greens party has only got 2 msp’s. Theres more people in London than the whole of Scotland!

    Power vote consoles.

After p5/20 got to vote using power vote consoles, these are very precious to the parliament and they were very very lucky to use them! Mrs Young would make it live on the laptop and they had to press the number that they thought the answer was and then at the end it would show the number of votes beside it. They were amazed on how cool they were!

    New leaders.
P5/20 got into their parties that they had already had in class time, they needed a new leader to lead the group so the groups had to vote for their new leader, p5/20 had great fun doing that.

    Party names and manifestos.

Now moving on to the names and manifestos. There were six parties that needed six new names these names were the school party, sporty, music, animal wealthcare, saving the Earth and the computer party. Each group got stickers, a manidesto and the leader got a rosette. The rosette was purple and it had the logo of the party on it, the other members had a sticker with the logo on it. They also had a manifesto which is where you keep all your work, but in this case we needed it because there was a post it on the back that we needed to write on, we wrote why you should vote for us to be the best party.

    Best party

All the parties had to make a speach on why they should be voteed the best party. In end the Sports party won and the music party came 2nd. everyone tried really hard and they all had an amazing tiem writing and the leaders had a brilliant time competing against the other leaders.

    Prociding officer.

We needed a prociding officer to sort out if we should have a school uniform or not. David Irivne got picked to be the prociding officer and he done it very well. He got to use the gavoll and hit it off of the table if things got out of hand and to noisy.

    Debating.

P5/20 debated on having or not having a school uniform, all groups had differeent ideas and opinions on this, but over all the school uniform was BAND. Alot of kids were super happy about that, some of the kids werent very pleased and they really really wanted to keep school uniform but the others won the debate.

    Conclusion

Overall p5/20 had a very exciting morning and they were all very apprieceative to Mrs Young for coming to markethill primary school to teach them about The Scottish Parliament.

  8. VIST FROM SCOTISH PARLIAMENT
    Introduction
First of all, on the 27th of February, P5/20 met Mrs Young an education worker from the Scottish Parliament Edinburgh to tell them a bit about their topic. She told P5/20 all about what she does and that her job wasn’t the same as what the MSP’s do. She goes around Scotland to schools and tell them all about the parliament.

    Facts about Parliament and Assemblies
After Mrs Young told P5/20 a bit about what she does, she asked them some questions to see how well they know about Parliament! And these are some facts about the Parliament and the Assemblies: the Scottish Parliament was built in 1997 and started working in 1999, people started working in the Parliament in 2004, the Greens party in the parliament only have 2 members, Scottish parliament have 129 MSP’s, there are 2 parliaments in the UK Edinburgh and London, and there are 3 Assemblies N. Ireland Belfast, Wales Cardiff and England London these are some of the main facts about the Parliaments and the Assemblies.

    Power vote consoles
After that we had to take a quiz on the Parliament but Mrs Young gave P5/20 odd little remote things that look like a T.V remote. After a while P5/20 got the hang of it, all they had to do was vote by pressing a number 1,2,3 or 4 and your vote would count but you could only vote once. After they voted it would show the % of the people that voted.

    New Leaders
Finally P5/20 all got into their party groups but this time they had to vote who would be the different leader! So after they had chosen a new leader the leader from each group had to go and get some stickers and a manifesto. Each group got a different one and they were The Wildlife party, School party, Music party, Sporty party, computer party and The World party. After they had filled out the manifesto they had a to have a debate on who’s group was the best and everybody got a sheet each to vote! The Sporty party won the debate. Secondly P5/20 had a second debate on whether if school uniform will be band or not. So this is the point they had to use there power vote and say YES or NO. So they all voted once. Yes got about 22% of the class voted yes and 9% of the class no so school clothes was band.

    Conclusion
Over all P5/20 had a FANTASTIC time!!!
