Glow Update

Just to let you know that the new Glow is now up and running. However, we have not allowed staff access because it is currently not useable. We are now in the process of waiting for Education Scotland to add the final templates to the system. These templates will incorporate some basic web parts and navigation, which is currently not set up in the new system. Education Scotland have sourced an external company to design the templates and they are testing them just now.

Hopefully, they will be finalised next term and then we can roll out some training with the old and new systems running side by side.

Migration of Glow Content

RM and Education Scotland were to manage the migration of data from the existing system in the summer break. This migration is the first of its kind anywhere in the world and Aberdeenshire was one of the first 3 local authorities to be supported to undertake this migration. This process however is not complete and the new version of Glow, based on Office365, is not ready for use yet.

Because of this delay, Education Scotland has agreed that our original Glow be available for use as normal until at least the October break, by which time, the Office365 version should be available with full functionality to support learning and teaching and communication.

Please be aware that any changes made to Glow groups between now and October, including the updating of documents will have to be repeated in the new Glow. Please also inform staff that we advise them not to create any new Glow Groups.

Cancelled – New Glow Twilight Training Events

We are sorry to say that the training has had to be postponed until further notice.

Over the Summer holidays , glow has changed, content from old Glow has been migrated to new Glow.

Therefore, we are arranging twilight training sessions at each Academy from September until November.  These sessions will show you the basics in getting a new Glow site set up using data from your old Glow Groups. It will also introduce you to some of the tools in Office 365.

Please check the Aberdeenshire Events Website for your chance to register.

Glow Group Migration July 2013

We have now had confirmation that Aberdeenshire Glow Groups will migrate during the first 2 weeks of the summer holidays.

Education Scotland along with RM decided that the migration would happen in order of usage. We were pleased to find out that Aberdeenshire is the third highest user of Glow and therefore, will be third to migrate.

Once we see what happens when a Glow Groups migrates, then we will be in a position to create help guides for schools.

Please also be advised that the current Text Editor web part will not migrate to the new system.

Important Update on Glow+

As part of the move to Glow+ (Microsoft Office 365) in December this year, we have already migrated Email.

The next step involves the migration of the existing Glow Groups to the new Glow ( Microsoft Office 365 )

We were advised last week by Education Scotland and RM that Local Authority sites are to be migrated in order based on usage and content.  We were told we are placed third in that list and the migration will begin on or just after the 6th July.

From that date, and for the entire summer holidays, Glow will be accessible but will be ‘Read Only’ ie you will be able to access any document, but you will not be able to add new or amend any existing documents

 Blogs remain unaffected.

We will be working over the summer holidays to have the necessary support material including CPD resources ready.

If you currently use Glow for daily bulletins, or other daily information delivery then you will have an alternative in place for at least the first few days.

Preperation for Glow Group Migration

In preparation for the change from our current Glow system to the new Glow system we are required to identify Glow Groups to migrate over.

So we can identify these Glow Groups it is essential that you put an asterix in the title e.g.

Aberdeenshire Council Glow Group          would be changed to

 *Aberdeenshire Council Glow Group

Administrative and Corporate users

An issue has been identified where users trying to access GlowMaiil from a corporate computer, on the Administration network are denied access.

There are no issues when accessing Glowmail on the curricular network , or from personal computers outhwith school.

A temporary fix is detailed below. We have been asked by ICT that the procedure detailed may have to be carried out monthly.

Open up a browser and go to http://www.outlook.com you will get a message about accessing webmail and asking to agree to the terms of access. Just agree and close down the browser. You should find that you can properly open up any of the Office 365 tiles.

Video and instructions to follow, in the meantime please email

james.mclean@aberdeenshire.gov.uk or susan.sey@aberdeenshire.gov.uk who will provide 1-1 instruction
