Term 1

Welcome back to our first term in P6/7. It is great to see everybody back having grown so much over the period away from the school building. The children have shown they are excited to be back at school to continue their learning.

Maths

In Maths this term, we are looking at Number Processes and the Number System, looking at ordering, reading and using numbers up to 100 000. We have already started to look at place value for whole numbers and decimal numbers in class. Later in the term, the class will look also explore the topic of Measure.

Literacy

In Literacy, we have started our class novel of ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ by Cressida Cowell. We will also continue with our reading groups alongside this. Reading will be heard in class on a Tuesday with the reading homework being placed on Google Classroom. Can I please ask that reading books come back to school every Friday, so they can be quarantined for 72 hours, ready to be used again the following Monday.

For Spelling, we are continuing to use the Active Literacy Scheme. The children will focus on 10 words each week appropriate to their level which will be practiced in school and as homework.

In writing, P6/7 are learning how to write journals and autobiographies, in particular, looking at discussing their own thoughts and feelings, and the thoughts and feelings of others.

Health and Wellbeing

In Health and Wellbeing, we are using the novel ‘There’s a Boy in the Girls Bathroom,’ by Louis Sachar. We will be using this book as a stimulus for cross curricular activities, focusing on emotions and feelings that are present throughout the book.
