P6/7 TERM 2 NEWSLETTER

Welcome back to our second term in P6/7. It is great to see everybody back. The children have shown they are excited to be back at school to continue their learning.

Maths

In Maths this term, we are learning about Money, learning to solve problems using money, budgeting and the different vocabulary associated with money, such as credit and debit. Later in the term, the class will learn more about Data Handling.

Literacy

In Literacy, we are continuing our class novel of ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ by Cressida Cowell. We will also continue with our reading groups alongside this. Reading will be heard in class on a Tuesday with the reading homework being placed on Google Classroom. Can I please ask that reading books come back to school every Friday, so they can be quarantined for 72 hours, ready to be used again the following Monday.

For Spelling, we are continuing to use the Active Literacy Scheme. The children will focus on 10 words each week appropriate to their level which will be practiced in school and as homework.

In writing, P6/7 are following their Big Writing Adventure. This term, the class have been given the mission of creating an anthology of short stories to help an author.

Health and Wellbeing

In Health and Wellbeing, we are continuing the novel ‘There’s a Boy in the Girls Bathroom,’ by Louis Sachar. We will be using this book as a stimulus for cross curricular activities, focusing on emotions and feelings that are present throughout the book.

Our PE days are a Monday (with Miss Lamont) and a Friday (with Mrs Webster). Please can all children come to school in their PE kits on these days.

Enterprise

For Topic this term, each class in the school are creating a Christmas Podcast. This will consist of different features created and performed by the children in P6/7.

Additional Information

Library – Our Library slot is on a Wednesday, if any children would like to change their book for a new one they will get the opportunity to do this every Wednesday afternoon.

Drinking water – The shared water fountains in the corridors are out of use just now, however, the children can fill up their water bottles in class and keep their bottle at their desk.

Miss Jones will also be taking the class on a Monday and Friday for Science and RME.

Term 1

Welcome back to our first term in P6/7. It is great to see everybody back having grown so much over the period away from the school building. The children have shown they are excited to be back at school to continue their learning.

Maths

In Maths this term, we are looking at Number Processes and the Number System, looking at ordering, reading and using numbers up to 100 000. We have already started to look at place value for whole numbers and decimal numbers in class. Later in the term, the class will look also explore the topic of Measure.

Literacy

In Literacy, we have started our class novel of ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ by Cressida Cowell. We will also continue with our reading groups alongside this. Reading will be heard in class on a Tuesday with the reading homework being placed on Google Classroom. Week A – Monday (with Mrs Webster) and Friday (with Mrs Webster).

Week B – Monday (with Mrs Webster) and Friday (Miss Lamont).

Week A – term week 2, 4, 6, 8

Week B – term week 3, 5, 7
