Homework W.B. 27.03.17

Phonics

Continue to revise the sounds from last week.

As the weather is so good this is a great opportunity to get outdoors and engage in some fun spelling activities.  For example writing spelling words on the ground with chalk or using paint brushes and water.  Children can also use natural resources to make the sound (e.g. create the ch sound using sticks, stones and flowers).  These type of activities will be both sensory and memorable for your child and will help reinforce learning.

Reading

All books should be returned this week and no books will be issued this week.   However if you wish to work on reading during the holidays it is useful to go over key words on word wall.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Numeracy

If you are wanting to do some number work over the holidays it would be beneficial to reinforce your number bonds. We have also been working on time and this is an area you can continue to look at with your child.

Yellow group-

Addition to ten

O’clock

Blue group-

Addition to ten and twenty

O’clock and half past (challenge quarter past)

We have also been working on time and this is an area you can continue to look at with your child.

Class Dojo

You should have received a letter home today about our new ‘ClassDojo’.  The children were very enthusiastic about these this morning!  It is a great way of encouraging positive behaviour in the classroom.  It will also allow you to see how your child is getting on in the classroom and talk to them aspects such as listening, being polite, staying on task and so on.

Please feel free to comment with feedback and suggestions to let me know how you and your child are finding the new system.

Thanks,

Miss Moyes

Up until the end of term we will be consolidating the sounds we have been learning.  Please go over these (either in your phonics envelope or in your little blue book).

  • use Jolly Phonics App

Homework W.B. 13/03/17

Numeracy

Blue

Follow the link to the game below

http://www.arcademics.com/games/mission/mission.html

Game Settings-

Start by doing subtraction to 12 at a slow speed.  Once you are confident with this you can increase the speed.  Then after this you may wish to do subtraction up to 15 and then up to 20.  Build up the difficulty slowly (you might do this over a number of days).

Yellow

Follow the link below and play the game, taking away the rabbits.

http://www.rabbittakeaway.co.uk/activity/

Game Settings-

Start with the easy level and then try the difficult level if you can (this might be done over a number of days).

_________________________________________________________________________

Phonics

Blue Books

Children with blue books should revise all sounds in their books to date.  They will be given a new sound this week as well.

Extension-

Follow the link below to play the game for the ‘oo’ sound.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/wordsandpictures/longvow/poems/flash/fpoem7.shtml

 Phonics Envelopes

Children should make the words with the “au”.  This one is tricky so your child may need a help to read over the words.

Please make sure your child takes their word envelope to school every day as this will help them when organising this homework to take home.  They should also take out the previous weeks word list so they don’t get their sounds in a muddle.  However it is a good idea to keep these so you can go back and do revision.  Consolidating and going over previous sounds is very important to help reinforce learning.

Thank you for all your help and support,

Miss Moyes

Homework W.B. 06/03/17

Phonics

All the children will get a have new sound this week.  These will be either in their blue book or sound envelope.  Children with sound envelopes should remember to try and make the words.

Numeracy

Yellow

We have introduced the concept of subtraction and how to write a subtraction sum correctly.  At home make your own subtraction sums using house using toys.  For example seven pieces of lego take away two pieces of lego and so on.

Blue

We have been using a number line to complete subtraction sums up to 20. Follow the link before to find a blank number line. Let your child write their own subtraction sums and then answer these using the  numberline.

http://www.ictgames.com/numberlineJumpMaker/index.html

French

We have been counting to ten in French. See if you and your child can count to 20 together! Here is a song that you may play to help learn to count to 10 and beyond.

Homework W.B. 27/02/17

Literacy

Eyes on Words

Image result for eyes on words

This week we are making Eyes on Words lollipop sticks.  Please try using this during reading homework this week.  This will benefit your child in a number of ways-

  1. To follow text accurately
  2. To focus on letter sounds to blend and read words
  3. To cut out background distractions and look at the words we are reading

This is also more fun than using your finger! Try to make it a habit every time you read.

Punctuation

Discuss the different types of punctuation in your book and discuss how these change the way you read something.  (For example full stop means you take a pause or exclamation mark you use a loud or excited voice).  You might also see how many times you can find different punctuation marks.

Numeracy

We have begun learning about time, focusing on o’clock and half past on digital and analogue clocks. Follow the link below to the game-

http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/mathgames/earlymath/on_time_game1.swf

Once you are confident with this move on to the game below (medium level)-

http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks1/maths/telling_the_time/play/

It is also useful to look at clocks within your own environment (at home, in the car…)  When it is two o’clock for example you may ask your child if they can read the time.

Thank for your continued support Miss Moyes

The Eiffel Tower

We have been learning about the Eiffel tower this week.  This seems to be a big interest at the moment as many of the children chose to write, draw or make something related to the Eiffel tower for their homework.

We used black pens to create detailed pictures.  Our targets were to use lots of detail and to try and accurately represent the true shape.  Here are our finished products.

We also made models of the Eiffel tower using different types of construction.
