3rd Don Crossing

image

On Tuesday the 3rd of March the Rebekah and Brittany went to the Third Don Crossing again to catch up on their progress. It was very, very windy and quite cold!

We interviewed Iain MacPherson, one of the site managers, who provided great answers to all of our questions.

Since the Easter holidays are coming up at the start of April we will be going to the construction site again at the end of March.

The Interview:

What progress have you made with regards to the construction of the bridge over the past month? – Bekah

“We are making good progress; the bridge has already been part casted and the roadwork has been completed.”

Are you still on track for your estimated completion date? –Brittany

“At the moment, yes. That’s all I can say.”

Has the weather had any effect on progress? – Brittany

“It did prior to Christmas. The river had risen due to rainfall. The conditions weren’t suitable to move earth.”

Has there been any negative impact on the surrounding area due to the construction taking place? – Bekah

“I would say no. A lot of what of what we do we have to get permission for. Anything that we do that will have an effect on the environment is discussed with Sepa and other agencies in advance. Other instances where we have to speak to people like the National Trust or Historic Scotland have been done prior to start of construction. These things have an assessment carried out at the start to ensure that impact is taken into account and limited.”

What has been the most exciting part of the process been for you so far? – Brittany

“I think for me, is starting to see the bridge foundations come out of the ground. The excitement is still yet to come. Now it means everything is in our hands.”

Is there going to be a walkway? – Brittany

“Yes and there’s also going to be a designated cycle lane. You can see that in Tillydrone just now. It will be more impressive once phase 1A is finished. Phase 1A is the phase at St Machar round about.”
