BBC School News Report 2015

The people who took part this year were:

Hayley, Erin, Caitlin and Rachel from S5.

Joe, Rebekah and Brittany from S3.

Jordan from S2 and Cameron, Nicole, Amy, Josh, Jake from S1.

The team was lead by Mr Rae, Miss Smith and Miss Darroch. We were lucky enough to be joined by Fiona Stalker from the BBC and the Media Department from NES College as well as a group of students.

The NES College team allowed us to use their facilities which helped us to improve the quality of our news stories this year. BBC School Report was bigger and better this year as we had a wider range of news and a bigger team to work with. Although the day was busy it was very exciting and eventful, mirroring what it is like in a real news room.

The news we gathered came in from Pittodrie, Aberdeen City Council and even Alex Salmond’s car. The whole day was a great success!

We would like to thank everyone who took part and everyone who helped us.

Manchester City Knocked Out of Champions League

Barcelona v man city

On the 18th march the second leg of the round 16 Champions League match between Barcelona and Manchester City took place at the Camp Nou.

Manchester City had a big battle on  their hands as they were already 2-1 down after the first leg  so City needed at least 2 goals to take the tie to extra time.

Unfortunately, it did not look good for the English side when Messi set up an Ivan Rakitic lob in the first half of the match. Things began to look promising when Sergio Aguero was awarded a penalty but it was saved.

The scoreline could have been a lot worse for Man City but Hart was on top form throughout the evening by making 10 superb saves to stop Barcelona from extending the gap.

This is the fourth time that Manchester City have failed to make the quarter finals in as many attempts and with this being their fourth defeat in five games there is a significant question surrounding Manuel Pellegrini’s role as manager. It does seem that he is in danger of losing his job as Manchester City may come away from this season without any silverware.
