Scottish week!

On Monday we had lots of fun celebrating Robert Burns’ birthday at nursery! We very much enjoyed dancing to some Scottish music in the dining room. We also looked at some tartan and created our own tartan pictures! At snack time we sampled some traditional haggis neeps and tatties! Some of the boys and girls really enjoyed it (some not so much!)

“It tastes like soup!” Daisy

“It was like carrots” Iona

” I like it!” Miguel

We have also been enjoying giving the baby dolls a bath in the water tray! Erma, Sienna, Daisy and Indrani all helped Miss Gray set it up by thinking about what we needed and helping to find everything. The children have been doing a great job of washing and looking after the babies, they are squeaky clean!

On all weather Wednesday we braved the woodies despite the cold and rain (we still had lots of fun of course!) the children took part in some bird spotting and we found that some of the birds had been munching our cheerio bird feeders we left there last week! The children asked if we could bring some spades for digging in the mud with next week, so we are looking forward to getting messy with that next time!

Another busy week!

The butterflies have enjoyed another busy week at nursery! This week we have been finishing off our calendars which will be going home very soon! We have also been continuing talking about the seasons and changes in weather. This week at the woodies we went hunting for frosty objects, it was very cold but we still managed to have lots of fun!

This week we have also been experimenting with adding different materials to the water tray. Last week Miss Buckley and Miss Gray asked the children what they would like to have in the water tray, the children had noticed that no one was using the water tray which was a big problem!

Some suggestions included pasta, coloured rice, lentils, jelly and even dinosaurs! This week Clara, Daisy, Chloe and Daniel decided to experiment with lentils!

We are hoping the butterflies will continue to take ownership of their learning experiences at nursery and make choices about what they would like to learn and explore!

Finally we have been very much enjoying exploring and learning in our vet role play corner after the Grasshopper class decided they would like to learn all about vets, the butterflies have been enjoying it just as much!

Happy new year!

We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and a very happy new year! The Butterfly nursery are looking forward to a new exciting year full of fun, play and learning! We have began our first week back in 2016 by making our own calenders. We have been discussing what we use calenders for, why they help us and the different seasons within them. The children have been really enjoying being creative to make their very own calender to take home!

We also began our nursery library this week, the children were involved with setting up our library books, cards and took responsibility to choose their own book to look after and take home. Please remember to return your child’s library book each Friday so they can take a new one home. We hope you enjoy this opportunity to read and discuss with your child!
