What a very busy week we have had! This week we have been learning all about the work of engineers. We completed 4 challenges to help us develop skills that engineers use at work. We also listened to industry professionals and asked them questions about their work.
Challenge 1 – Who’s been eating my porridge?
Through music and drama we learnt how crops grow and are harvested.
Challenge 2 – The Potter
We discussed what materials different items from Baby Bear’s house would be made of and why. We looked at different objects and talked about their properties e.g. shiny/dull, rough/smooth, heavy/light, what it was made of etc. We also had to guess the material/object using only a description of its properties.
Challenge 3 – Baby Bear’s Den
We constructed models of dens for Bear Bear. The boys and girls talked about their models with the class. Lennon and Jackson’s den had a mechanical roof and a secret entrance! Lucas and Nicol made a boat den!
Challenge 4 – Baby Bear is Bored!
We designed a garden for Baby Bear to play in. We had lots of exciting and fun things for Baby Bear such as bouncy castles, swings, slides, trees and even hot tubs and cold tubs. We also had to think about what materials we would need which included bark, slabs, grass and bricks.
Industry Professional
We listened to John, an engineer, who explained to us what jobs he does. We also asked him questions.
We will be finishing the week with a whole school assembly. We would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all involved in making this week possible including the Tech Fest team, Live Wire and Chevron.
