Broomhill School P1 Room 4

We set off yesterday morning to Doonies by bus with great excitement!  We met Farmer Alice who did a wonderful job of making us feel very welcome. We had an opportunity to touch chicks and feed lots of hungry animals. Alice told us lots of interesting facts about farm animals. She asked lots of questions which a very knowledgeable P1 class were able to answer!  Many thanks to the parent helpers who came with us and allowed us to go on the trip. Also many thanks to Mr. C.  J’s dad who was the official photographer!

Today we welcomed some new children who will be starting Primary 1 in August. We worked together to create a maze, a house and used a treasure map for each Bluebot. Our task was to use positional language  to program and move the Bluebot. It was super fun!

We visited TheWoodies last week with Miss Apere, Miss Forsyth and Mrs Youles. We read the story of The Stick Man in “the office” and then played games. Our learning objective was to work cooperatively together. We had great fun!

We are learning about farming. We made a mind map of what we already know and what we would like to find out. Here are some of the pictures and information we have been working on which have been displayed on our walls.

We have learning about potatoes and the different parts of the plant. We have chitted some seed potatoes in class and planted them today. We also wrote instructions on how to plant potatoes. We will be monitoring their growth in the coming weeks!

Mr Cowie came to visit room 4 today. He explained about his job and told us about his special collar. Mr Cowie also came and shared a story about  a man called Zacchaeus. Thank you Mr Cowie.

We are learning about money. We knew quite a lot about different coins and why we need money. Only one bright lad A. knew that we usually had to earn it!

These are some of the activities we did yesterday with 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p and 20p coins.

Miss Taylor delivered a surprise parcel to room 4. It was very, very heavy. We all had a chance to feel how heavy it was. When we opened the box we all got a huge surprise! Andy had sent us a fossil of an ammonite. We then warched a short video clip about ammonites. We then looked at the key features of a newspaper and used this to write about our special delivery.
