Yesterday we investigated pushes and pulls and magnetism. We used magnets to find out what objects in the classroom were magnetic, which was fun. We also discovered all the things we push and pull at school.

Growing cress

This week we were learning about what plants need to grow. We planted cress seeds in plastic cups and put them on the window sill. We are looking forward to seeing how much the cress grows over the next week. image image

Rain Gauges

This week we we’re learning to carry out a fair experiment. We made rain gauges and put them in the garden. We are going to collect them next week and see how much rain has fallen.

Last week we started learning about symmetry. We used mirrors to help us find out if shapes were symmetrical and created symmetrical butterflies in art.

Term 4 Newsletter

Term 3

This term we will be continuing our active literacy approaches.  We will be learning the sounds ee, oo, ck, ai, oy and oa as well as revising all single sounds.  Please continue to practise reading your common words.  Remember short, frequent sessions are better.  You can also use any of the spelling activities to practise writing the common words you are finding tricky.

We will be extending our skill to add and subtract numbers within 20.  We will be learning to use different resources to help us, as well as being able to talk through the strategies we have used.  We will continue to explore number sequences and patterns.  Through movement games and using technology we will be learning to use directional and positional language.  We will also be exploring symmetry.

Health and Wellbeing

We will be learning about Internet safety this term.  We will also be developing our balance and control through different gymnastic activities.

This term our topic is about the farm.   We will be learning about the different animals that live on a farm, produce, farm processes, farm vehicles and crops.

Our gym days this term will be on Tuesday and Friday.  So you can get ready as independently as possible it would be helpful if you can wear a polo shirt on these days.

Generation Science

On Thursday we had a visit from Generation Science. The show taught us about how the Earth’s movement is linked to night and day. It was so much fun to watch and some of us got to join in.

In P.E. this term we are doing a dance unit. Today we listened to different types of music and moved our bodies in different ways that reflected what we heard. It was good fun!

Archie for Africa

As part of our support for Archie for Africa we have been walking round the playground once a day. When we add up the distance we will have walked round part of Uganda.

Pharmacist Visit

Today we had a very interesting visit from two pharmacists who explained to us how to keep safe around medicine. We learned how to take medicine safely, what to do if it is out of date and what to do if we find it lying around.
