Term 4

Term 3

Literacy

This term we will be continuing our active literacy approaches.  We will be learning the sounds ee, oo, ck, ai, oy and oa as well as revising all single sounds.  Please continue to practise reading your common words.  Remember short, frequent sessions are better.  You can also use any of the spelling activities to practise writing the common words you are finding tricky.

Numeracy

We will be extending our skill to add and subtract numbers within 20.  We will be learning to use different resources to help us, as well as being able to talk through the strategies we have used.  We will continue to explore number sequences and patterns.  Through movement games and using technology we will be learning to use directional and positional language.  We will also be exploring symmetry.

Health and Wellbeing

We will be learning about Internet safety this term.  We will also be developing our balance and control through different gymnastic activities.

Topic

This term our topic is about the farm.   We will be learning about the different animals that live on a farm, produce, farm processes, farm vehicles and crops.

Other

Our gym days this term will be on Tuesday and Wednesday.  So you can get ready as independently as possible it would be helpful if you can wear a polo shirt on these days.

Fossils

This week we have been learning more about fossils. We became paleontologists and carefully excavated fossils from clay bricks and in the sand tray.  We made skeleton dinosaur pictures and we tried to build 3d dinosaur models.  We also had fun playing different dinosaur games.  We enjoyed examining and finding out more about ammonites.   Kevin and Jessica brought in fossils for everyone to look at.

Pharmacists visit

Today we had two visitors from a pharmacy.   They were teaching us about different kinds of medicine and how to use them safely.  For extra homework see if you can find your nearest pharmacy.  Remember to look out for the sign.

We’re Going on a Dinosaur Hunt!

We all made up stories based on ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’.  We then picked some of the ideas and made a big class storybook called ‘We’re Going on a Dinosaur Hunt’.  We all helped write and illustrate it.  This week some of us read the story to a group of nursery children.  Next week and the week after everyone will have the opportunity to read the story to other nursery children.  The nursery boys and girls really enjoyed our story!
