Broomhill School P1 Room 4

Forms went out today if your child requested one. They need to be back tomorrow  – Thursday 3rd March for the P6’s to process and make the order. No late orders accepted, sorry.

N.B. World Book Day on Friday. Can your child please bring in a favourite book to share with room 18, P4’s.

 We read the story  about one of the first paleontologists  called Mary Anning. We then examined some small fossils. Here are some of our comments.

 We copied some Chinese characters.  We enjoyed fortune cookies and other Chinese snacks.

Add the numbers and circle the correct answer.

 Add the numbers on your dominos and match the answer with the correct number mat.

Add the sum on your lolly stick and match the answer with the correct number on the cups.

 It’s going to be a predator.

It’s going to be yellow.

The skin might be fluffy with spikes!

Term 3

Literacy

This term we will be continuing our active literacy approaches.  This will involve the children working independently, with partners and as part of a group to complete activities.  Please help your child by practising their common words at home e.g. short  5 minute bursts using flashcards for word recognition and practise writing these words so that pupils develop the ability to write these independently.  This greatly improves your child’s ability to read and write.

Numeracy

We are learning to add and subtract through games, songs and other activities.  In the next few weeks children will receive number bond flashcards e.g. 4 + 1 = 5, 2 + 3 = 5.  Please help your child learn these.  We will also be learning about money and time.

Topic

This term our topic is dinosaurs.  We are learning about different species and their characteristics.  We are learning to use factual books to carry out research.  We are learning about the work of a palaeontologist and when dinosaurs lived in relation to humans.  We will also explore different theories about dinosaur extinction.

Other

Appointments – it is very important that you notify the class teacher in writing, in advance, of any appointments.

Our gym days for rooms 4 and 5 are on a Monday and Thursday and room 7 is on a Monday and Friday.

Some of the P6’s are learning to be Young Leaders. As part of their training they have been learning playground games to play with us outside. We have had great fun playing rabbits and lions! 

We have been learning how to make human bar graphs to count how many people in the class have different colours of eyes.

We also learned how to make a bar graph to measure things on a beach.

The pencil weighs 2 cubes!

We are having a bit of trouble with the scissors.

The crayons weigh 50 blocks!

I think that’s good, it will balance.
