International Peace Day

Last Wednesday, which was the 21st of September, was when International Peace Day 2016 took place.  This date was chosen in memory of the founder’s grandfather who was a prisoner of war: his favourite number was 21. This is a day where people worldwide come together to take a step back from the worries of war. We began by watching an inspiring video which explained how Peace Day came about. Starting with just one family, the peace day project has developed into a day of peace which is recognised worldwide.

We took part in the peace crane project – we made origami birds which were decorated with words of peace and hope. We will be sending these to another community and we will also receive some. This helps to spread the message of International Peace Day. http://armedwiththearts.org

In order to show the friendship in our class, we made ourselves as a paper people chain to decorate our peace wall. Additionally, on peace day the company Puma help to make football matches happen around the world. We were hoping to host one as a class too, but the weather wasn’t on our side. Let’s hope Aberdeen borrows Spain’s sunshine this week so we can have a belated football match.

Here are some pictures of some of the activities we did on the day.
