SSPCA VISIT

This week we got a visit from the SSPCA which stands for The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. We learnt that 3 things could happen to you if you are cruel to animals. They are sent to jail for up to 2 years, band from ever having a pet again and you could be given a fine. They are the only animal Centre in Scotland that takes every animal. Their phone number is 03000999999. Our favourite part was the video.

Silhouette Art

Last week we did silhouette art for Halloween. We used oil pastels and cut our bits of black paper to make ghosts, houses, pumpkins etc.. We blended different colours of oil pastels to make a spooky background so it looked as realistic as possible.

Growth Mindset

We have been learning about a growth and fixed mindset. A fixed mindset will stop you from exploring your knowledge and learning. A growth mindset will help you stay positive and have a good attitude towards everything you do. We made a wall display with growth and fixed mindset phrases. We also worked with a partner to show the difference between fixed and growth mindset. We are all now trying very hard to have a growth mindset in primary 5/6.

A busy first term!

We have had a very busy first term in primary 5/6. We began by doing lots of getting to know you activities. Our topic was inventions. We created our own inventions and our parents and classes came for a visit to see them.
We celebrated Roald Dahl Day and for our writing we created our own fact files all about his life. We shared our favourite Roald Dahl books with our peers.
We went on a class visit to the Aberdeen Science Centre. We learned all about electromagnetism.
For reading the Editors read Stig of the Dump, the Authors read George’s Marvellous Medicine, the Poets and Illustrators had a range of different books.
For RME we were learning about Islam and Hinduism. In Islam we learnt how to pray the correct way on a prayer mat and about the life of Muhammad. In Hinduism we learnt about the different gods.
In big maths we get timed for 60 seconds to do as many maths sums as possible in the time. We are trying to get better each week.
