The Critter Keeper

The Bees had a visit from Dave the Critter Keeper on Monday. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and most of them had a go at touching them. We saw a Snake, Tarantula, Cockroach, Hedgehog, Giant Snail, Rabbit, Gecko and a Frog. What an exciting start to the week. We also had fun on the wheeled toys and went to the woodies on Wednesday. We have had such a great week! Have a good weekend everyone!

Sports day

Sports day was a huge success on Monday. The children did really well and all took part and had fun! Well done everyone I’m sure you were all very proud.

Last week our children moving onto primary one had the chance to experience some of the activities on offer with their new teachers. They were all very excited.

We said goodbye to our butterflies in the garden and enjoyed watching them fly off into the sky. We have enjoyed caring for them and have learned a lot through the process. It is getting very close to the holidays now and we still have some exciting activities planned. Watch this space!

Mini beasts

For the last two weeks we have been discussing mini beasts. We have our very own Caterpillars and are very excited to see them turn into butterflies. We have had discussions and watched educational videos of the life cycle of a butterfly. The children are very excited about them as I am sure you have heard.

We have also been making the most of the lovely weather! We have been to the wildlife garden, out on the wheeled toys and also climbed on the gym trail. Please could you remember to apply sun cream and pack a sun hat before your child comes in so we can continue making the most of the good weather. Practice sessions have also started for sports day. The children really enjoyed the experience! I am sure they will do great on the day. Have a great weekend.

Treasure basket fun!

The children have enjoyed exploring the treasure basket this week. Thank you for your donations. They have spent time investigating using their fine motor skills to manipulate small tools. We also enjoyed trying on the jewellery. If you have anymore items at home you no longer need we would greatly appreciate them. There is a list on the notice board of items we could use. We have also been making the most of the nice weather and had fun on the wheeled toys and exploring the wildlife garden. Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Last week of term

We have had a great week taking part in lots of Easter activities. The children had a great time at the woods rolling their eggs that they had decorated especially for the occasion. They even had a go at rolling themselves down the hill! We hope you all have a fantastic break. We all look forward to seeing you all in two weeks, all refreshed and ready for more fun at nursery. Happy Easter everyone.

20th March 2017

We have had a great week continuing our experiments! The children really enjoyed the balloon and string experiment which taught them about forces and how air can make things travel. We also looked at how water and oil separate when added together. We then added an effervescent tablet to create bubbles in the bottle which looked like a lava lamp. The children have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the experiments. We also made some lovely mothers day poems and cards, hope all the mummies had a lovely day yesterday. This week we will continue to make Easter crafts and we will be painting and decorating hard boiled eggs to roll at the woodies on Wednesday.

Science week

We have had a great week trying out various experiments for science week. The children have been very enthusiastic and have all taken part. We carried out a different experiment each day which ranged from erupting volcanoes to magic milk! This sparked a lot of interesting questions and discussions and the children have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Nursery Golden Tickets

image

On Monday we will be introducing our own nursery version of ‘Golden Tickets’. These will be given to children who demonstrate positive behaviour including helping others, listening well, looking after nursery resources and anything else staff feel needs to be flagged up and rewarded. The children will post their tickets into our own gold post boxes and every day a winner will be rewarded with a sticker. We plan to reward the children with the most tickets by having a snack picnic under the Christmas tree in the infant hall at the end of term.

Doctors and climbing trees

This week the children have been exploring medical equipment signs and acting out the role of a doctor in the role play area.

On Wednesday we took the children to the open area of the Woodies for the first time. They did a wonderful job staying within their coned boundaries!

The children appeared to enjoy exploring this new environment. They balanced and climbed on the ‘listening log’, explored the leaves and moss with magnifying glasses, and did a bit of drawing. Sophie found a few good hiding spaces, and the children had races up and down the hill. At the end of the session, all of the Bees evaluated their session by giving it a thumbs up!
