Doctors, the Gym Trail, and Selfies!

This week we explored a ‘talking and thinking’ box about people and services in our community. The box had pictures and objects linked to firefighters, doctors and nurses, cafes, and shops. We enjoyed touching, looking at, and discussing everything in the box. After having a vote, we decided that we wanted to learn about doctors!

Due to the ice on Wednesday, we assessed that it was too risky to take the children to the Woodies. The playground was gritted, so we decided to go to the Gym Trail with the Grasshoppers instead. While playing, we were developing our balance, concentration, and gross motor skills.

Sara and Joanne had a turn of taking photos with the iPad. Joanne figured out how to take a ‘selfie’! Here are a selection of their photographs:

Our Autumn book and Children in Need

This week we were working on our Autumn book. We Were discussing the changing weather, and how the leaves are changing colour and falling down. We wrote about all of the things we knew about Autumn.

Lucy, “The leaves are all changing colour and falling from the trees.”

Megan, “The wind is blowing all the leaves out the tree.”

Talia, “Everything is a bit damp outside.”

Sophie, “These are all the leaves.”

At the woodies on Wednesday, Miss Szufranowicz, our student, carried out a lovely Autumn craft activity. The children collected sticks and leaves, and used them to make crafts based on their interests. Some children enjoyed drawing, while others practised their scissor skills by cutting out and sticking.

On Thursday, we had a spot-tacular day raising money for Children in Need in our pyjamas. Together, all of the nursery classes raised £126.70! Thank you for your donations!

A busy week for the Bees nursery

We have been busy Bees this week!

On Monday, we joined up with the Grasshoppers and had great fun dancing and playing games at our Halloween party. We played ‘Pass the Pumpkin’, ‘Musical Monsters’, ‘Ghost, Ghost, Witch’, and had a dancing competition!

On Tuesday, we put our helmets on and went outside for ‘Wheeled Toys!’ We have been learning how to negotiate and share the wheeled toys. We have also been learning about boundaries and keeping safe. The children know that they are not supposed to go past the cones that set our boundaries. They also know that they should find an adult if they are upset or need help.

On Wednesday, we went to the Woodies! At the moment, we are using the fenced area of the Woodies while we continue to discuss rules and boundaries with the children. The children are beginning to understand the rules of the Woodies:

1- Do not go past the cones (that mark our boundaries)! 2- Get a grown up if you see dog mess. 3- Have fun!

We continue to have in interest in climbing trees, and playing with the crisp Autumn leaves.

In nursery, we have been learning about Autumn. We’ve been learning about the different festivals and celebrations that happen in Autumn, like Halloween, Diwali and Bonfire night. We have also been exploring and sorting Autumn foliage.

Welcome to the new term!

Welcome to the new term! The children have been observing changes in the weather and their environment, and have been enjoying learning about Autumn.

Now that most of our afternoon children are settled into their nursery routine, we have begun our weekly trips to the Woodies. This week, the children enjoyed climbing trees, exploring with magnifying glasses, mark-making about the changes in the environment, and using ribbons to ‘test the wind.’
