What we are up to this week.

Weekly Plan – Week beginning 30.11.15

We hope you’ve enjoyed reading the books in the P1 Book Bug Bag and the children have had fun exploring all the goodies that came home last week.  We cast our vote for our favourite book last Friday and will find out the winner on World Book Day…which is not until March 3rd!

On Tuesday afternoon we will meet with our P5 Book Buddies to practise our reading, common words and word pot words.

On Wednesday morning we will be visited by Dan from the local church.

On Thursday afternoon we will be going down to the school hall to watch the Robin Hood Panto…’Oh yes we will!’

This week we will begin our enterprise project as we make some very special Christmas treats for the School Fayre. Remember to come along on Saturday 12th December to see what we have been making and to stock up on some gifts and goodies for Christmas.

Reading – Your child will receive a new reading book on Monday and Wednesday. It would be extremely helpful if you could work with your child for a short time each morning or night.

First night with the book – read the story together, look at the pictures and discuss what’s happening. Have a look at any words in the word pot and see if your child can find them in the text. Ask your child to read the text to you, supporting them when necessary. If they are stuck with a word, encourage them to sound it out, look for clues in the picture and the story.

On the second night see what they can remember about their book from memory. Ask them to read the text to you and then focus on words from the text, or in their pot, that they struggled with.

Common Words – so and had.  Primary 1 homework will be given out on Monday and should be completed for the Thursday. Well done to the children for practising their word walls. Quite a few were able to read the entire set!!  Please keep practising these at home.

Phonics – This week we will be introducing the sounds j and z. You will find the sound activity in the P1 Home School books on Monday and Thursday.

P2 will be reading and writing 3 letter words and will get spelling homework on Monday which should be completed for Thursday. These words should be practised each night at home, ready for the spelling test on Friday. You can see how well they have done as it is completed in the back of their homework jotter.

Number – Primary 1 and 2 will be continuing work with addition with a focus on ‘stories of 2 and 3’ for P1 and ‘stories of 9 and 10’ for P2.
