On Wednesday morning we will be visited by Dan from the local church.

On Thursday afternoon we will be going down to the school hall to watch the Robin Hood Panto…’Oh yes we will!’

This week we will begin our enterprise project as we make some very special Christmas treats for the School Fayre. Remember to come along on Saturday 12th December to see what we have been making and to stock up on some gifts and goodies for Christmas.

Reading – Your child will receive a new reading book on Monday and Wednesday. It would be extremely helpful if you could work with your child for a short time each morning or night.

First night with the book – read the story together, look at the pictures and discuss what’s happening. Have a look at any words in the word pot and see if your child can find them in the text. Ask your child to read the text to you, supporting them when necessary. If they are stuck with a word, encourage them to sound it out, look for clues in the picture and the story.

On the second night see what they can remember about their book from memory. Ask them to read the text to you and then focus on words from the text, or in their pot, that they struggled with.

Common Words – so and had.  Primary 1 homework will be given out on Monday and should be completed for the Thursday. Well done to the children for practising their word walls. Quite a few were able to read the entire set!!  Please keep practising these at home.

Scottish Children’s Book Awards

Yesterday we visited the Beach Ballroom to meet the three authors nominated for this years Scottish Children’s Book Awards in the age 3-7 category. Pamela Butchard, Emily Mackenzie and Simon Puttock showed photos, read their stories and told us all about themselves. There were over 800 children there from across Aberdeen and it was lovely to see our boys and girls listening well, enjoying themselves and waiting so patiently when they had to!

We hope the children in primary 1 have been enjoying each of the books at home. We have been reading them in class, talking about the characters and voting for our favourite. We will take our final vote tomorrow although it looks like ‘Wanted – Ralfy Rabbit, Book Burglar’ is a firm favourite already!
