On Wednesday, Yushin and Fumi from Japan Desk Scotland came to our class to tell us all about Japan. We sang some songs in Japanese, we learned about the country and we all attempted some origami. It was a fun workshop and we thank them for travelling from Glasgow to Aberdeen to speak to us.
Judo
As part of our work on Japan, Gordon (Mia’s Judo teacher) came to our class to tell us all about Judo. He has visited Japan several times and he told us that Judo is compulsory for all children at school. He also let us know that the pupils clean the schools, there are no cleaners.
Before we tried some Judo, Gordon showed us his Samurai medals, an amazing achievement. We learned all about the discipline and respect involved in the sport and we now know that Judo means “the gentle way.”
We all thoroughly enjoyed Gordon’s visit and thank him for his time.
NSPCC and First Aid
Last week, we had a very informative assembly and workshop from the NSPCC. We all learned about the importance of talking to a responsible adult if we are worried or upset.
Today we did First Aid Training. The p7s learned how to do CPR with Tom. The p6s were learning about epi pens, burns, how to handle a nose bleed and bandaging.
In French, we are learning a new song, “Je suis une pizza” which we will be performing to the infants. We also learned and memorised the days of the week.
In maths, we were learning about tessellation and we made our own patterns. Lastly, we also took part in the Sumdog competition for maths week. Our class were 91st in Scotland.

Wagamama
Today we went to Wagamama in Union Square to find out more about Japanese cuisine.
We took part in 3 activities. We tasted seaweed, pickled ginger and dried bamboo with chopsticks. Then we made our own fruit smoothies and lastly, we met with the chef and we weighed rice noodles and normal noodles. Before we left, we ate delicious Japanese food.
We all thoroughly our visit and we definitely like Japanese food!
Week 2
TechFest
We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 workshops at TechFest on Tuesday.
First of all, we were given a challenge to make the longest train of gears with k-nex which was then powered by solar energy. We all worked well in our groups and some of us even needed to get extra gears! Then we went to a chemistry lab to make and taste ice cream. This was definitely one of our highlights! Lastly we found out about civil engineering and we worked as a whole class to build a bridge which everyone was able to cross.
As you can see by our photos, we certainly learned a lot at TechFest, we worked well with each other and we had fun!
Week 1 in Primary 6/7
Our first week in P6/7 was good, busy and enjoyable for everybody.

“Japan is a very good topic, we learned that it is in Asia and made up of over 6000 islands.” Mia
