A visit to St Columba’s

As part of our work in RME, we visited both sides of St Columba’s Church yesterday. We were able to see the artefacts and symbols we have been learning about in class and we learned about lots of other features of both the Catholic and the Church of Scotland.

It was really interesting to be able to compare and contrast both churches and some of us had a very interesting discussion about it in class today.  We also thoroughly enjoyed meeting Jackie, the sacristan, in the Catholic Church who told us lots of interesting information and patiently answered our questions.  Mr Kinsey in the Church of Scotland challenged us to count the number of crosses in the church, he demonstrated how the font is used, showed us what is used at Communion and told us that the church is not just a building.

We certainly learned a lot and we would like to thank Jackie and Mr Kinsey for their time.
