During WW2 everyone in Britain was given a gas mask in a cardboard box, to protect them from gas bombs, which could be dropped during air raids.

  • Imagine that you had to design a modern day gas mask. Write a paragraph describing it and how it works. (You will have done this work successfully if someone else in the class can draw your mask after reading your description.)

    My gas mask has a long red spout with three leather straps to keep it on your head and has red rubber around the eyes

  3. I’ve done my Homework but im not sure if I’ve got the name of the Chemical right but here are my answers:

    The most interesting facts I found out about Gas-Masks was that Gas-Masks have a very extremely dangerous Chemical called Abestos.

    2. What the Gas-Mask looks Like: The masks were made of black rubber, which is extremely hot and a bit smelly. It is difficult to breath when wearing a Gas-Mask . When you breathed in the air was sucked through the air filter to remove the gas. When you breathed out the whole mask was pushed away from your face to let the air out.

  4. The two things I learned about gas masks were that it took 12 hours to take full effect and there were different types of poison.

  6. I think a modern day gas mask should be made out of foam.It should be comfortable to wear and you should be able to control the temperature inside. It should also smell nice.The straps should be made of cotton.The filter at the front of the gas mask will be used for breathing.

  7. i learned that adult gas maks were black and childrens were a mickey mouse shape and they had red rubber pieces and had bright eyed piece rims , I also learned that it was not very good to breathe through

  8. 1. By the begging of 1940 no one bothered to carry their gas mask around.
    2. Children fond it hard to take serisonly when they discovered blowing cut through the rubber made rude nosies

    My gas mask would be thick leather on the outside and soft fur on the inside. It would have purple round two circle eye wholes with window wipers at the bottom to see out. You click a little button at the side to make the wipers move .Their would be a tube round the back on top of the strap round your head with emergency oxygen in it just encase. At each side of the mask would be two different breathing parts. They are both circle but the red one helps you breath oxygen and checks the air your breathing to make sure its clean. The other stops gas getting in.

    It’s a childrens gas mask. It is quite big. It is white with black spots on it. It has big eye holes. It’s got panda like ears on the top so you can pick up voices from over 2 miles away. It has a calculator so you can cheat on your maths homework and it’s got spell check so you can cheat on your spelling. They aee both within the lens.You control them bby moving your eyes. You can listen to the latest musci and songs from movie like The Muppets!

  13. My gas mask would come in a handbag for lady’s and girls the boys and men would carry there’s in a gym bag. The actual gas mask would have two plastic eye goggles and would be made out of leather but would have soft material in side of the mask the gas mask. Also would have a stretchable strap to go round the head. Also the gas mask would have a nozzle so you can breath when the mask is on. Would come in colours such as pink, navy, black, blue, red, green.

  14. I would have a gas mask that looked like a hat that went over your face with like a flat plastic bit that went over your mouth to breath but would not let any bad chemicals in like gas it would come in plastic see through box and a leather strap it would be made out of a carpet material.

    My modern day bask mask would be made up of two parts. The first part looks like a pair of safety goggles. The visor would be a rectangular shape and would be at the front and at the sides of the goggles. This would help the person to see better than out of ordinary goggles. The second part would be a like an oxygen mask with a filter build in at the bottom. This would be held in place with elastic. The mask would come in all different colours, blue, red, green, purple and pink.

    I think modern day gas masks would be bright and colourful and not black and boring looking like the ones during the war. They would look a bit like a diving mask, covering your eyes, nose & mouth. There would be two filters attached to the nose piece to stop you from breathing in poisonous stuff. It would be made of a material that would glow in the dark to make it easier for people to see u at night and to help rescuers find people hurt or missing. They would come in the following colours: illuminous yellow, green, orange & blue and would come with a silver waterproof bag that you would wear around ur waist all the time when you are out so you do not loose it.

    Gas had been used a great deal in the First World War and many soldiers had died or been injured in gas attacks. Mustard gas was the most deadly of all the poisonous chemicals used during World War I. It was almost odourless (could not be smelt easily) and took 12 hours to take effect. It was so powerful that only small amounts needed to be added to weapons like high explosive shells to have devastating effects.
    This was my favorite one on link two Air Raid Wardens wore gas masks with a long hose and a speaking box which was attached to his belt. The tin canister at the end of the mask contained charcoal which soaked up poisons such as mustard gas.

    My gas mask is beige. It has black spots all over it. You can listen to all the latest music. You can get matching bags to go with your cover. You can get changeable covers for your gas masks. The eye holes are square.It is made out of leather.
