The National Galleries of Scotland are challenging you to explore their collection of drawings, paintings, prints, sculpture, photography or installation for some inspiration. You can write in prose or poetry. Closing date for entries is Friday 18 January 2013. Get writing!!

The fabulously funny author of books including Two Weeks With the Queen, Misery Guts and the trilogy Once, Then and Now is going to be the judge in The Guardian’s summer short story competition.
There are two age categories: 7-11 and 12-14, and your story must start with this sentence:
Dad was flabbergasted when I told him the news…
And then it’s down to you how it continues and finishes!
Your story must be no more than 500 words and must be all your own work. The closing date for entries is Sunday the 1st of July, so get writing now!!

Calling all budding authors! The Wicked Young Writers’ Award is FREE to enter and entries can range from any genre including stories, poems, drama and can even include illustrations. The award is open to young people aged between 5 and 25 years old on the closing date of 31 July 2012. Entries must be no longer than 750 words! Click here for more information. Get writing!!!

Congratulations to all members of the Junior Reading Group who took part in the WBD film, and many thanks to Mrs Urquhart, Mr Hogg and last, but not least, Mr Murray for donating their time and acting talents to our production.
