“Gothic Aberdeen” short story competition

Writers aged 16+ are invited to write a gothic story inspired by the city of Aberdeen, with the chance to win £300.
The competition winner and runner-up(s) will be announced at the 2025 WayWORD Festival in October.

To enter, short stories between 3,000-4,000 words should be submitted as Word Documents or PDFs by the 31st of July 2025.

Words of the Wild competition

The Scottish Wildlife Trust would like your stories of Scotland’s wildlife and wild places within the theme: From source to sea.

Whether it’s a memorable moment on a riverside walk or an amazing experience at one of Scotland’s seabird colonies, they would love to hear about it.

Submissions can be up to 1,000 words long and written in any form: poem, letter, short story, essay, or song lyrics.
The deadline for entries 12 July.
