Outdoor Learning

Primary 3 had a fantastic (but very wet) time at Outdoor Learning with Mr Miller this week! We loved playing in the rain, even though it did get slightly cold. We were playing pirate ships, making beautiful chalk art, hiding in containers and jumping in puddles.

Term 2- Overview

We have another busy term coming up in P3!  Below you will find an overview of each curriculum area  and what we hope to cover with the pupils on the run up to Christmas!

Literacy

The pupils will complete spelling activities every day. They will receive their spelling phonemes (sounds) and their words on a Monday. We review this in class and go over definitions.  Each day we will complete an activity to consolidate the taught sounds. Homework is also giving out on a Monday,  this should be completed and returned to school on a Friday. Common words will be practiced at school, but should also be reviewed at home.

Sounds/ words will be uploaded on Blog weekly.

Pupils will get 1 reading book a week (at the moment). They will take this book home on a Monday and it should come back inside their bookbag everyday! The pupils will be heard reading in their reading groups/ individually on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.  In addition to reading in class, pupils will be completing Reflective Reading comprehension that will focus on skills  like inference, understanding, grammar and reflection.

In writing we are focusing on writing narratives while working on our targets and general grammar. Our focus for grammar this term is wow word (adjectives) and effective sentence openers. In addition to consistent practise of basic sentence structure.

Numeracy and Maths

Topic maths is time and estimation and rounding.  We will be looking at time values – seconds, minutes, hours, sequencing months and linking to the appropriate season and telling the time for hours, half hours, 5 minute intervals and minute intervals on analogue and digital clocks. We will estimate quantities and position of numbers and also round to the nearest ten, hundred and thousand.

CLIC- CLIC targets will be uploaded on the blog weekly. In CLIC we do BEAT THAT! and Learn its every Friday to assess the pupils progress.

Topics

We have finished our Historical topic- Egyptians and loved it! We hope you enjoyed hearing all about it at home.

Our topic for the rest of the term is Showtime, with the main focus being learning the songs and practising with the other classes for our Christmas performance of The Grumpy Sheep.

Health and Wellbeing

We will be using the Bounce Back resilience program. In term 2 we focus on no bullying and relationships.

We will also be starting the Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood topic. This will be a series of four lessons throughout term 2. Details about each lesson and the vocabulary used can be found on Google Classroom.

In PE will be focusing on using small equipment such as bean bags and balls, rolling and balancing and playing games. Our gym days are on a Tuesday and a Wednesday. The children can come to school on a Monday wearing clothes suitable for gym and do not need to change into shorts/leggings/joggers.

Our outdoor learning session with Mr Miller is on Wednesday 23rd November.

RME

Our RME this term will focus on Christianity and the Christmas Story and traditions.

French

French will be delivered by Mrs Forbes every Wednesday.

Art

Art this term 2 will be focused on Christmas/Winter crafts. We look forward to using skills like cutting, sticking, gluing, painting and drawing to express our creativity.

Thank you for all your support so far. Please get in touch if you have any questions.
