On Thursday 28th February I Charlie went to the Maltings as part of my Endeavour. Here are a few questions that I found the answers to.

Q: Where does the barley come in from before the barley boat?

A: It comes in from Leith and Lowestoft.

Q: When was the Maltings built?

A: It was built in 1973.

Q: Do you just deliver to Ardbeg?

A: No we deliver to every distillery bar Bowmore and Bruichladdich.

Q: What is the science behind the Maltings?

A: Germination and Kilning.

Q: What is the history behind the Maltings?

A: Supply Lagavulin, Coal ILA and Port Ellen distilleries.

When I visited the Maltings the first place I went to see was the drums.  What are the drums?  The drums are where all the and barley go through into.  The next stage is when they put water through they barley and is then made into throffy but wet barley.  The next stage is where it gets more water into the last mixture.  How many drums are there?  There are 7 different drums. The second place I went to was control room to see what the reading was for the drums as one of them was almost done. Then we went back to the office and John MacDonald went and got some barley for me but after a few days it was getting really smelly and dry so I had to put it in the bin. I also got photos and lots of facts from John and some other people who were working as well. At the very top of the page you can see that I asked questions and I got Answers from them.
