In writing, we have been creating poetry that links to our World War 2 topic.\u00a0 We have been focusing on creating a repeating pattern and using figurative language to engage the reader.<\/p>\n

Fear looks like a soldier,<\/p>\n
Cowering the corner,<\/p>\n
Like a terrified rabbit.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Fear sounds like a soldier,<\/p>\n
Screaming so loud,<\/p>\n
Like a new born baby.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Fear smells like a soldier,<\/p>\n
Covering his face with an elbow,<\/p>\n
To stop inhaling the smoke.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Fear feels like a soldier,<\/p>\n
Saying goodbye to his wife,<\/p>\n
Heading off to war.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Fear tastes like a soldier,<\/p>\n
Bleeding from his head,<\/p>\n
Hiding for his life.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Fear is hiding in your hands,<\/p>\n
So heavy you can barely move it,<\/p>\n
So you need to hide.<\/p>\n
We have also been learning how to write diary entries.\u00a0 We looked at examples of diaries, including the diary of Anne Frank and then created our own fictional diary of a child during the Blitz.<\/p>\n
Numeracy<\/strong><\/p>\n In numeracy we have continued our work on Decimals, Fractions and Percentages.\u00a0 We have been learning how to find fractions of amounts and how to convert mixed numbers to improper fractions (and back again).\u00a0 In Maths, we have been developing our measuring skills by learning how to measure and compare capacity.<\/p>\n Health<\/strong><\/p>\n In PE, we have been learning some new dances for our Christmas party.\u00a0 We have been practising the moves, improving coordination and balance as well as our listening and following skills.\u00a0 So far we have practised The Slosh, The Macarena, The Cha Cha Slide and 5, 6, 7, 8.<\/p>\n Other<\/strong><\/p>\n We have been working very hard on our Christmas Enterprise project which was to design and make a Christmas Tealight Holder.\u00a0 First we had to do research and then we had to present our idea to Mrs Angus.\u00a0 Then we designed our pots on paper before making them out of air drying clay.<\/p>\n We also created some wooden gift tags to sell at the fayre too.\u00a0 Mrs Welsh let us try her Pyrography tool to create burned designs in the wood.\u00a0 We had to be very careful as the tool gets VERY hot.<\/p>\n It has been a very busy 2 weeks in the P6W classroom.
